In operation,the stencils 4 are fed step-bystep along the .guideway, by the chain con veyer 5 so as to be'successively presented to the selector and printingmechanisms, not
shown, and thento the improved recording '1 mechanism. Only those stencils which are in a given selection. are acted upon by. the printmg and recording mechanisms. The. other stencils merelypassthroughthe machine.
When a selected stencil} reaches selecting V I position, the selector is set thereby and causes I the rotation of the sleeve 110, whichactuates the cam 115 through the .ge ars.- 111 and 112. During the operation .ofthe'machine, the drive shaft 97 operates continuously for. driving the drum 105. -Upon-rot'ation of the cam 115, it engages one of the detent pins 107 and gagement with the lever 117.
Movement of the lever 117, under the action of the pin 107 ,drives the marking plunger 45 downwardly through the action of the links 123 and 128 and the rocker member 28. When thepin 107 passes beyond the shoulder 120,
the lever 117 and marking plunger 451are restoredto initial position through the action of the spring 122 and cams 3133. t f With this improved construction and arrangementof parts, the lever 117 is not actuated by the accumulator until the selected stencil has moved a plurality of steps follow- ;ing the setting action and the marker element i7 is not lowered until the selectedlstencil reaches recording position. a
