Description

Dec. 16, 1939. M. WARGIN 1,785,217
' FINGER RING Filed.Feb. 6, 1950 @Mdm/@W fatentecl Dec. 16, 1930 PATENT OFFICE LEE M. WAEGIN, or sr. LOUIS, mssonar FINGER RING Application led February 6, 1930. Serial No. 426,323.
My invention relates to new and useful'improvements in finger rings and has for its principal object the provision of a ring adapted to be worn as a symbol of mourning.
{ A further object resides in the provision of a ring of the character described in which there is a band of metal such as gold, silver or similar material and a surrounding black band of composite material such as black enamel, black onyx, stone or similar material, the band of metal acting. as a support and reinforcing member for the surrounding band.
With the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description p-roceeds, my invention consists in the novel details of construction, and arrangement of parts, described in the following speciiication and illustrated lin the accompanying drawings, and while I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of the invention, as they now appear to me, it will be understood that such changes may be made as will fall within the scope of the appended claims.
In the drawings Fig. l is an edge view.
Fig. 2 is a transverse ver-tical section.
Fig 8 is a perspective showing aslightly modified form of the invention; and
Fig. 4 is an edge view of the construction shown in Fig. 3.
In Figs. l and 2 of the drawings 1 indicates a band of metal such as gold, silver or similar material'formed with a kerf 2 eX- extending circumferentially thereof to receive a black band 3 of suitable material such as black enamel, black onyx, black stone or the like. The extension 4 of the band l eX- tends under the band 3 as shown in Fig. 2 and forms a support and reinforcement therefor. l
In Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawings I have shown a slightly modified form of the invention in which the outer band covers the entire outer surface of the inner band. In this form of the invention 5 indicates the inner band of metal such as gold, silver or similar material and 6 the outer black band of black enamel, black onyx, black stone or similar material. As shown when looking at the edge of the ring in this form the inner band will not show.
In both forms of the invention illustrated the surrounding or outer band will be secured to the inner band in any desired or preferred manner such as by cementing, a relative shrinking or expansion of the members, by baking the outer ring body of enamel or like on the inner supporting member, etc.
From the above it will be seen that I have provided a novel form of ring having a black band therearound which will indicate to an observer that the wearer is in mourning. This will obviate the necessity of the wearer at times answering embarrassing questions.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. A iinger ring including an outer composite black band and an inner supporting and reinforcing band, one edge of the outer band being flush with an adjacent edge of the inner band to present exposed edge portions of contrastingV colors.
2. linger ring including an outerfcomposite black band and an inner supporting and reinforcing band, the width of both bands being the same to present exposed coincident flush side edges.
3. A mourning ring comprising a ring of black material, and means for supporting and reinforcing the same comprising a relatively thin metal ring portion having an enlargement at one edge to extend circumferentially at the side of the ringof blackmateral and to form therewith the outer surface of the rlng, the black material covering the relatively thin metal ring portion circumferentially to substantially conceal the same.
In testimony whereof, I hereunto aHix my signature.
LEE M. WARGIN.
