Description

TTORNEYS' J. SIMS HAND BAG I Dec. 9, 1930.
Filed Aug. 11 1930 Patented Dec. 9, 1930 JACOB SIMS, or'snooicnyii, NEW YORK i HANDBAG Application filed August 1 1, 1930. Serial No. 474,344.
This invention relates to improvements in handbags and more particularly'to improve ments in the closure means for handbags.
A particular object of the invention is the provision of a handbag in which the conventional lock on the top frame of the hand bag is dispensed with and the handbag is kept closed by a fastener on one side thereof, as
Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-section of my improved bag in an open position.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view along the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a top plan view.
In the drawings, 10 designates body of the bag.
11 is a flap shown in open position in Fig. 2 and in closed position in Fig. 1, which operates as the closure for the handbag.
12 is a fastener on the inside. of the flap co-operating with the supplementary fastener 13 attached to the body of the bag.
14 and 15 are hollow U-s-haped metal members constituting part of the metal frame work of the bag, the form of thesemembers being clearly shown in Fig. 3.
the leather 16 is the lining on the inside of the bag.
14a denotes-a portion of the body 10 which is compressed within and firmlyheldwithin the body of the channel member 14 and is continued in the flap 11, it being understood that the flap 11 and thebody 10 can be made of a single piece of fabric.
It should be noted that the metal member 2 14 has a height greater than the metal mem ber 15 as will be clearly seen in Figs. 1 and 3, as the flap 11 covers the top of the member 15 when the bag is closed.
No locking means are necessary on the top of the members 14 or 15 and normally only the top of the metal member 14 is exposed.
In this fashion I have provided a simple method of making a handbag without look. ing means at the top but which is effective 1y closed by the flap 11 and which has a plea-sing appearance.
Having fully described my invention, what 1. In a handbag, the combination of two channel members forming the frame thereof, and a continuous body for said bag, one. end of said body having a portion thereof compressed within oneof said channel members and ending in a flap-covering the top of said other channel member. v I
2. In a handbag, the combination of two metal channel members pivoted together constituting the frame of said bag, and a con tinuous sheet of fabric constituting the body thereof, part of said fabric being compressed within one of said channel members and the end of said fabric forming a flap terminating in a closure for said handbag.
3. In a handbag, the combination of two metal channel members pivoted together constituting the frame of said bag and a continuous sheet of fabric constituting the body thereof, part of said fabric being compressed within one of said channel members andthe end of said fabric covering the top of the other channel member.
14. In a handbag, the combination of a frame composed of two channel members pivoted-together, one of said channel members being of a-greater height than the other, and a body. for said handbag having a portion of the fabric thereof compressed, within one of said channel members and terminating in a flap covering the other channel member.
5. In a handbag, the combination of two metal channel members pivoted together constituting. the frame of said bag, one of said channel members being higher than the other, and a flap acting as a closure for said bag having one end thereof compressed within one ofsaid channel members and covering the top of the other channel member.
6. In a'handbag, the combination of two metal channelmembers pivoted together con-' stituting the frame of said bag, and a flap acting as a closure for said bag having one end thereof compressed within one of said channel members, the continuation of said flap constituting one of the sides of the body of said bag. 7
7. In a handbag, the combination of two U-shaped channel members forming the frame thereof, the top of one of said chan- V nei members being elevated with respect to the other, and afiap acting as a closure for said bag,.the end of said flap being compressed w1th1n one of sa1d channel membersand covering the top of the other channel member. H
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
