IMPROVEMENT IN lRONlNG-BOARDS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178,453, dated June 6, 1876; application filed March 11, 1876.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, G. L. MILLER, of South Oil City, in the county of Venango, and in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bosom- Boards; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this speci- 'fication.

The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a bosomboard, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a bottom view of the same.

A represents the bosom-board, of any suitable dimensions, having the corners at one end cut out, as shown at BB, to hold the shirt in the shape of a mans shoulders and neck. The other end or bottom of the board is cut with a slot, 0, near each edge, leaving an arm, D, on each'side, and a center-piece, E, which latter is cut off, and a rabbeted bar, Gr, attached thereto, to prevent splitting or warpmg.

To the end of one of the arms D is pivoted a lever, H, by means of a screw, a, said lever being rabbeted to fit on the bar G. This lever is fastened at the opposite end by a bent wire hook, I, sunk into the wood on the under side. 7

The top of the board is covered with a cloth,

while the under side is left smooth and plain for polishing.

This board is simple in construction and durable.

The lever may be tightened by the screw-a at one corner, and by bending the bow of the hook at the other corner.

To use this board the neck of the shirt is first buttoned or pinned, and the board then put inside of the shirt, and the shirt drawn down over the end of the board. Then, by putting the hands at the gusset at each side and pushing back the gussets over the projecting ends of the board, leaving only one thickness across the end of the board, the balance between the gussets will be in the slots 0. Then ,shut down the lever and hook it, and draw the part between the end of the board and lever down until tight. After ironing, and when nearly or quite dry, turn over on smooth side of board for polishing.

- Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The board A, constructed as described, with cut-out corners B B, slots 0 O,'arms D D, and center-piece E, having the rabbeted bar G, as and for the purposes herein set forth.

2. The lever H, with bent wire hook I, in combination with the board A, as and for the purposes herein set forth.
