IMPROVEMENT IN WATER-PROOF COMPOUNDS FOR LEATHER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1 78,447, dated June 6, 1876; application filed January 25, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PHILIPP KROMER, of Fairview township, Erie county, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain compound called Water-Proof Boo t- Grease, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates to that class of compounds used to soften the leather of boots and shoes, and at the same time make the leather water-proof.
To prepare the water -proof boot grease, take one quart of tanners oil, one pint of neatsfoot oil, two pounds of tallow, two ounces of bees-wax, and two ounces of lamp black.
Melt first the ta-llow and wax together; then add the tanners oil and the neats-i'oot oil, and boil twenty minutes; then add the lampblack, and boil fifteen minutes longer; then pour off into vessels or tins to cool, and when cold it is ready to ship or use.
The neats-foot oil and tanners oilv act on the leather, softening it. The tallow and bees-wax furnish the body or part of the composition that render the leather imperious to water, and the lamp-black keeps the leather
