This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in chairs and seats and more particularly to a novel foldable chair for use in dining alcoves and similar places. The principal object of this invention is to rovide a foldable chair` which is capable of ing disposed to a position against the wall or within a pocket in the wa1l-so as to be out of the way during the operation of clean- 10 ing the floor or straightening the table. c
Another important ob3ect of the invention is to provide a'foldable chair of the character mentioned whichwill be of relatively low cost to install.
These and numerous other important ob- 'ects and advantages of the invention will ecome more apparent to the reader after considering the invention as described 'and claimed hereinafter. 20 In the drawing:

Figure 3 represents a vertical sectional view through a wall structure showing in side elevation the improved foldable chair in retracted position. Figure 4 is a fragmentary sectional view disclosing the slidable connection between the chairback and the wall taken substantially on line 4 4 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 represents a vertical sectional view through a modification of the invention showing the same in extended position.
Figure 6 is a front elevation of the modified form of the invention showing the same in extended position.
Referring to the drawings, wherein like numerals designate like parte, it will be seen that 5 represents a wall o a building in which a rectangular shaped ocket 6 is formed. The buck and side wal s of this pocket are lined with the panels 7 and 8 respectivey. The side panel 8 is provided with a longitu inally extending slot 9.
The foldable chair includes a seat section 50 10 with a cross piece 11 secured transversely across the bottom side of its inner end portion, while a second cross iece 12 is secured to the underside of the section transversely at its intermediacy. A pair of brace bars 13--13 are employed for supporting the seat when in 55 extended position and each of these bars has its lowerV end pivotally secured to the lower portion of one side panel 8 as at 14 while its upper end is pivotally connected to one end o the cross member 12. A back section 15 has an extension 16 at each corner of its lower end and each of these extensions is pivotally connected to the inner end of the section 10 as at `17. A cross mem` ber 18 extends transversely across the inter- 5 mediacy of the rear side of the back section 15 and is equipped with a pintle 19 projecting from each end thereof, for engagement within the corresponding slots 9 in the side panels 8, (see Fi ure 2).
The cross inem er 11 on the seat section 10 also has pintles at its ends for engagement t within the slots 9 of the side panels 8 It will thus be seen that by lifting the inner end portion of the seat `section 10 upu wardly, the outer end may be swung downwardly which will result in the lifting of the back section 15 and the final dispositon of the parts in the manner shown in Figure 3, the entire structure being disposed within the a0 pocket 6. 4
In Figure 5,' as well as Figure 6, a modification of the invention is shown, wherein the supporting wall is denoted by numeral 5.

disposed toward the wall as at 7 and anchored in any suitable manner thereto.` The seat section 10 is equip ed with thecross member 1l. at the underside of its inner end, while across member `l2 is disposed across 9 the underside of the seat section at its intermediacy. A supporting bar 13 is pivotally interposed between the wall 5 and the seat section 10 by a pivotal connection.
Each end of the cross bar 18 on the back 95 of the back section 15 is equipped With an eyelet 19 for receiving the corresponding guide rods 6. The cross member l1 is also equipped with eyelets 19 at its extremity for receiving the said guide rods 6. lo
The back section 15 is pivotally connected to the inner end portion of the seat vsection* by means of the pivotal connection 17. By lifting the inner end portion of the sections 10 upwardl the outer end portion may. be swun inward y, which will result in the liftin o the back section to disclose the l parts 1n substantially the same anner as the parts ofthe preferred form o the invention lo as shown contracted in Fi re 3.
The foregoing invention as many uses and it is obvious that numerous changes in` the specific shape, size and materials may be resorted to w1thout departing from the spirit 15 and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Y Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
1. A foldable chair structure comprising a su porting structure, a seat section, a slidabl'e connection between the inner end of the seat section and the said supporting structure,
a back section, a pivotal connection between the back section and the inner end portion of g5 the seat section, and a slidable connection between the said back section and the said supporting structure, the inner end of the said seat section being adapted to be lifted so that fue outer end will swing downwardly and cause the seat section to assume a position on substantially the same plane with the back section. v
2. A foldable chair com rising a pair of guide rods, a seat section s idably connected at one end to the said guide rods, a back section pivotally connected to the inner end of the said seat section and a slidable connection between the said back section and the said guide rods.
