In constructing our improved tool we make use of a pair of handles 1 and 2, respectively, the said handles having their outer faces round in cross section and their inner faces flat. The outer end of the handle 1 is flattened and constructed to provide a bifurcated claw member 3 which may be employed as atack puller. The outer end of the handle 2 is likewise flattened and rounded, but is not bifurcated, and this portion, indicated by the numeral 4, may be employed for pryin the lids ofi of cans, lifting stove lids an the like. The handles 1 and 2 have their opposite ends directed toward each other, and these portions are flattened and have upon their opposite sides substantially rounded depressions and rounded portions to be received in the depressions, the said rounded portions being pivotall connected, as at 5. From the pivot the ban le 2 is extended and bent downwardly to provide a flattened jaw 6, the rounded or extended portion above thejaw being formed with an outwardly directed pointed lug 7. The portion of the handle 1, beyond its pivot is bent in an opposite direction from that of the part of the handle 2 provided with the pointed lug and from thence extended angularly toward the jaw 6, as at 8 and merges into a straight ja'w 9 that is disposed opposite the jaw 6. The jaws 6 and 9 provide the device with a pan lifter whereby heated utensils may be raised from a stove and conveyed without liability of in flicting injury to the hand of the user. Slidable on the handle 1, between the pin or post 14 and the pivot 5 there is a sleeve 15 that has on its outer end two spaced cutter elements 16 and 17, respectively. The post limits the movement of the sleeve in the direction thereof and the cutting elements, together with the pointed element 7 provide the device with a can opener. By forming the sleeve 15 with two spaced cutting elements,

one of the said elements may serve as a guide for the other and likewise one of these ele-' ments may be employed when the other be comes dull or broken.

The pin or post 14 holds the handles and the jaws in proper alinelnent and prevents any tendency of lateral movement of the hau dles and also, in connection with the socket 13, provides the improvement with a punch. In addition to this the member 14 serves as a stop for limiting the sliding movement of .the sleeve 15 in one direction, the movement of the sleeve in a second direction being limited by the contact therewith of the rounded and pivoted portion of the handle 1.

A combination tool of our improved construction is relatively simple and may be easily and cheaply produced, is very compact, and combines in a single construction a 'number of tools and devices that are generally useful about a household, or kitchen.

Having described the invention, we claim: 1. A tool comprising a pair of handles, a flattened portion formed on one end of each of the handles, means pivotally connecting said flattened portions in overlapping relation to each other and one of said portions extending into a plane above the handles, a pointed and hook-shaped member formed on the upper edge of said last named flattened portion and extending upwardly and outwardly of the handles, a cutting element slidable on one of the handles to cooperate with the hook-shaped member in forming a can opener, and means to maintain the handles in fixed relation while in operation as a can opener.

2. A tool comprising a pair of handles, overlapping fiat portions formed on the ban dles and pivotally connected together, one of said flattened portions extending into a plane above the handles, a penetrating hook carried by the last mentioned flattened portion and extending upwardly and forwardly of the handles, a sleeve slid-ably mounted on one of the handles and adapted to be limited in one direction by the flattened portions and in the other direction by said handle connecting means, cutting elements carried by the upper portion of the sleeve and adapted to cooperate with the hook in forming a can opener, and means to maintain the handles in fixed relation while in operation as a can opener.
