.IMPROVEMENT lN COMBINED CALENDARS. ERASER-HOLDERS, AND PENCIL-POINT PROTECTORS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 17S, 35 3, dated J une 6, 1876; application filed July 12, 1875.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, JAMES H. WHITE, of the city and State of New York, have invented an Improved Combined Calendar, Eraser- Holder, and Pencil-Protector, of which the following is a specification:

Metal tubes have been used for holding a piece of erasing-rubber, and these tubes have also received the end of the pencil to prevent the point being injured in the pocket.

Difficulty exists in holding the rubber into the split tube, especially when the pencil is inserted into that'tube."

I make use of a split tube to receive and hold the rubber, a ring to be slipped along the split tube to contract the same around the rubber, and a second ring or tube containing the days of the month, in seven parallel columns, so as to form a calendar, in connection with letters representing the days of the week, upon the first-named ring. By this construction the rubber, by its expansion, acts to spread the split tube, and retain the external rings in the position to which they may be set to form the calendar, and the rings serve to confine the split tube to the rubber, and securely hold them together; and the pencil, when inserted in the tube, holds the calendar firmly, so that it is not liable to be changed in the pocket, and the portion of the split tube below the calendar-ring yields freely to either end ot' the pencil when inserted, and it is especially intended for receiving the sharpened end of the pencil when not in use.

In the drawing, Figure l is an elevation of the eraser-holder and calendar, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same.

The split tube a is adapted to receive and form a shield to the point of the pencil b, and the erasing-rubber d is inserted into the other end of the tube a. The ring 6 is of a size to fit around the tube a. It has letters upon it indicating the days of the week; and f is acylinder with numbers corresponding to the days of the month, in seven columns, that are parallel and similar to those that have been used upon pencil-cases.

The manner of applying the calendar and adjusting the rings to hold the rubber, and to indicate the days of the month, will be apparent from the foregoing.

I do not claim an eraser-holder made with a cylindrical calendar, as these have been used upon pencils but they were not point-protectors, and were not adapted to the pencil being reversed.

I claim as my invention The point-protector made of a split tube, containing at one end a piece of rubber, and surrounded with a cylindrical calendar, the end of the split tube projecting to receive the pencil and form a point-protectonas set-forth.
