HARRIET A. SOHANDEVYL, OF EAST SAUGUS, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINEDSKIRT-SUPPORTERS AND CORSETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178,333, dated J nne 6, 1876; application filed April 24, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HARRIET A. SOHAN- DEVYL, of East Saugus, of the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Combined Skirt and Bust Supporter; and do hereby declare the same to be fully described in the following specification, and represented in the accompanying drawing, which is a side view of it.
The object of the article hereinafter described is to support, at one and the same time, the breasts and skirt or drawers of a woman, and for such purpose the suspenders constituting part of the said article are extended both above and below the gored breastsustaining sections, all as hereinafter explained.
In such drawings, A A denote a pair of shoulder straps or suspenders, provided with auxiliary fore straps a a, and connected by elastic dorsal straps b c 0, arranged as shown. To these suspenders there are fastened the two sections or parts B B of a waist or bust supporter, the said sections being provided with gores or pockets, as shown at O O, for receiving and supporting the breasts of a woman while wearing the article. One of the sections B B has a series of buttons, 01, and the other a corresponding series of buttonholes, 0, arranged with it, as shown, and each section is also provided with a strap, f, extending from it, as represented. The suspenders are to sustain a skirt or drawers and the bust supporter, to which they are to be fastened by pins, buttons, or other-proper devices. The additional straps f f also serve, with the bustsupporter, to support a skirt or the drawers of the wearer. The suspenders are to cross the shoulders of the person and be buttoned or pinioned to the upper portions of the bust-support-er.
The article is one which, when in wear, affords much comfort to a person, as it not only advantageously supports the breasts, but prevents the skirt or skirts or drawers from bearing down upon the hips and abdomen.
I claim as myinvention- 1. The combination of the skirt-suspenders A A, fore straps a a, and the gored bust-supporting sections B B, constructed and arranged substantially as set forth.
2. The combination of the skirt-suspenders A A, the fore straps a a, gored bust-supporting sections B B, and the auxiliary straps ff, all being arranged and applied substantially as specified and represented.
