The present invention provides a very simple apparatus, light and economic, without movable parts, adapted for making in a very short time seconds about) a'scaving knot 5 between two threads to be joined. It is particularly useful for connecting the threads broken in machines,,.such as, winding frames, doubling frames, clearing frames, gassing frames, reels, cross winders, beaming and In warping frames, etc.
There have been some devices constructed in order to obtain this same result, but they arev complicated and heavy, they show movable parts subject to damage, and they are too 1 highly priced to become common in use.
The apparatus forming the subject matter of the present invention consists essentially of an open ring or horseshoe shaped member mounted in a tube also open at one side or mounted on a support of a convenient shape having four pins around which pass in the form of a tress, the two threads to be joined by a weavers knot. i
The apparatus may he fixed to the machine or to the hand of the worker; in the first case an instrument for catching the ends of one of the threads is provided; in the second case these ends are held'between the thumb and the index finger of the hand carrying the mechanism.
The apparatus is provided with a special knife for cutting the ends always at the same distance from the knot, assuring uniformity which is of a great value in the weaving industry.
The annexed drawing illustrates diagrammatically two examples of the resent device in perspective, that shown in ig. 1 being of the type of apparatus to be fixed to the ma-' chine, and that in Fi 2 the ipparatus to be fixed to the workers %1El1d ig. 3 shows in front and side view the cutting knife for the ends, and Fig. 4 shows the manner of using the knife. 7 As appears from the drawing the apparatus consists of an open ring of horseshoe form 1) mounted on apiece of tube (2), or on a similar support also open at the point corresponding to the opening in the ring (1) The piece of tube has suitable small feet 3 shaped for the attachment to the machine, or

The knife provided is of the type comprising a handle (12) ending with two parallel extensions (13) containing between them a steel blade (14) of the safety razor type. According to this invention the thickness of the extensions (13) is made to correspond with the length from the knot at which it is desired to cut the thread.
The working of the apparatus is as follows:
Thethread (15) coming from the bobbin is pressed into and held in the spring (11) and the diseng ed or free end of the thread turned around 1'. e pin (6) (inwardly or left to right), then it must be passed outwardly around the pins (7-8-9-6) being held at the end again in the spring (11) or in the case of Fi 2 by the thumb'and index finger of worker s hand. p
On the contrary the thread-coming from the bobbin (18) tween the pins 7--8) running around the pin (6) is obliged to pass under the two threads of the space 6-11, thence over the two threads 15 and 17 of the s we 6-7 and at last under the thread15 of t e space 89.
Then with the ri htghand pulling the two ends of the thread 1 ,ind the left hand pull ing the two ends of the thread 15, removing them from the pins the weavers knot 19 is formed in a perfect way. This operation does not require more than 5 seconds to complete.
Fi 4 shows clearl how the free ends of the t are cut; The two disengaged or free ends of the threads (15 and 17) are pulled and the fiat knife laid u on the knotted thread 161918 must gli e towards the direction of the arrow. In this way the two oes firstly through and beends are cut at the same height, given by the thickness of one of the extensions 13 holding the razor blade.
The apparatus may be constructed of any material, and of various shapes, and sizes without departing from the invention. It is however preferable to construct it in metal and in one piece only.
Its application is the same for all the various workings of the textile industries and the apparatus may be used for knotting any thread (woollen, cotton, silk, artificial silk). It is specially fitted for artificial silk, considering that the knot with very thin threads is very difiicult to make by hand.
Having no particularly described the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that What I claim is:
. 1. In an apparatus for making weavers knots, a support comprising a U-shaped base provided on its upper end with an open ring, pins mounted thereon for the guidance of the threads to be knotted and the ends of which are to be cut a predetermined distance from the knot. V
2. In an apparatus for making weavers knots, a support provided with an open ring, pins mounted on the said ring for the guidance of the threads to be knotted and severed a predetermined distance from the knot, and means on the support for engagement with the ends of one of the threads.
