In using superheatedliues, super preheaters, `hoppers, and' various articles of this kind,` in many instances it is essential and necessary to provide coverings constructed 5 of various fibrous `materials or a Composition thereof, preferably asbestos with a composition material made therewith, for the retention of heat on the interior, so that the heat in passing through such structures may remain intensified, or at least at the approxi mate temperature as when the heat leaves its point of generation. i Many: articles of Athis 4kind are provided i with exteriorreinforcements, and to apply ,115 `such a covering, it is necessary to space the covering fromthe face of the structure to `be covered', the purpose being to escape interference -with any. projections such as reinforcements` on the exterior face of the structure. j
` providing an air space between the covering and the wall of the structure, thereby affording means to insure retaining the heat on the` interior of the structure. In other words, the air space acts as an insulator.
Heretofore, the supports for supporting the covering andv holding it spaced from the exterior surface ofthe wall of a flue or other `structure have involvedA a rather expensive outlay, not only for the supports but also in time and labor; and then again, the supports are not as rigid as may be desired in many instances, particularly when the covering or flue, or other structure has been of long use. To avoid such expense, time and labor, 40 it has been found that supports may be made as integral parts of the heads of rivets or f facture' bolts, which are used as fastening, or riveting the various lates of the flue or the structure together. t has been found very prac tical to utilize this means for supporting the covering and holding it spacedit being obvious that at the same time theplates areriveted or bolted, or otherwise fastened together. Still another purpose is to provide, as an article of manufacturein the class of hardware, for thevsupport of such covering.
Furthermore, it is the purpose to provide a combination wherein the supports actas the main element, in combination with a wall and in conjunction with a covering, such a combination resulting in the provision of an air space, and also affording means to `hold the covering in position to. escape the 'reinforcement or other projections on the wall structure. To escape such projections or reinforcements, it has been found quite essential 'to construct supports 3 integral with rivets, bolts or similar fasteners et, which are used for connecting the various plates of the iue or other *wall together. These supports are in the Way ot' projections which may be ot any length and provided with any number o f openings or pertorations 5, which receive tie Wires or tie rods 6, on which the cover 7 may be supported or suspended. This covering is mainly constructed of any suitable fibrous material, prefere ly asbestos, together with some other fibrous substance, i'or the purpose of retaining the heat on the interior ot' 'the tine or other compartment, there being an insulating air space 8 between the covering and the Wall. oit the flue. rllhe shank of the rivet or bolt, or other fastener, carries a nut, or the end of the shank is sivaged or otherwise headed, as shown at 9.
These rivets or bolts or other astenings are utilized for connecting the several metal plates in sequence for the purpose of making a flue or other article, While the support or cover carrying projection is an integral part of the bolt head.
This has been found a very essential means ot providing a covering support, yet at the same time eliminating the necessity of Welding or otherwise fastening the projections or supports subsequently to `connecting' the varit ous metal plates together to construct the tlue or other Wall. It Will be observed that the tie Wires or cover supporting means carried by the projections may be passed through any one of the openings or perforations, or nay be laced in and out of two or more of the periorations, as shown at l0, thereby providing additional reinforcing means tt'or the covering.
Having set forth the invention, What is claimed is:
1. The combination with a flue or other Wall comprising metal plates, of fastening means having heads :tor securing the several plates together, a covering, and means carried by the heads to support the covering.
2. The combination with a flue or other Wall comprising a plurality of metal plates, vvith means to secure the several plates together, of a covering, and projections made as integral parts on the plate-fasteningineans, and including means such as may support the covering in spaced relation to the Wall, hence causing an insulating or air space between the covering and the Wall.
3. The combination with a flue or other wall comprising a plurality of metal plates, With means for securing the plates together, said moans consisting of headed elements, of a covering for the Wall, and projections operatively carried by the heads of said elements, said projections including means to support the covering in spaced relation to the Wall, hence affording an insulating or air space.
4. The combination with a flue or other Wall comprising a plurality of metal plates vfith headed members for securing the plates in place, of a covering for the Wall, and proj cctions constructed integrally With the heads ot' said elements and provided With openings to receive hanger means by which the covering may be held in spaced relation With the u'all, accordingly affording an insulating or air space.
5. The combination With a flue or other Wall comprising a plurality of metal plates with headed elements for securing the plates together, oi a covering, and iiat extensions made integral With the heads of said elcments, said extensions having openings to receive hanger means consisting of tie Wires entering said openings to support said covering.
6. The con'ihination with af flue or other Wall comprising a plurality of metal plates with headed. elements for securing the plates together, of a covering, and fiat vextensions made integral with the heads of said elements, said extensions having openings to receive hanger means consisting of tie Wires entering said openings to support said covering and accordingly causing an insulating or air space to be formed between the Wall and the covering.
7. The combination with a iue or other Wall comprising a plurality of metal plates with headed elements for securing the plates together, of a covering7 and Hat extensions made integral with the heads of said elements, said extensions having openings to receive hanger means consisting of tie Wires entering said openings to support said covering, and accordingly holding the Wall spaced suhiciently to escape projections on the Wall and at the same time causing an insulating or air space to be aorded between the Wall and the covering.
