IMPROVEMENT IN GAME-TABLES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178,268, dated June 6, 1876; application filed November 30, 1875.

This invention relates to an improvement in what are commonly called game-tablesthat is to say, tables which are especially adapted to the playing of gamesthe object of the invention being to construct a table readily adapted to the playing of various games; and it consists in a frame, all sides of which are rigidly connected together to form arcentral recess, combined with a reversible panel, to be dropped into the said recess from the top, and, also, combined with screws to adjust the elevation of the panel relatively to the upper surface of the frame, all as more fully hereinafter described.

A B (J D are the four sides of the frame. Within this frame a panel, E, is fitted, so as to be easily dropped into the space within the frame, or raised from it, and for conveniently raising the panel a drawer, F, is introduced into the frame, so that by removing the drawer the hand may be introduced beneath the panel. Within the frame a hearing or shoulder, a, is made to support the panel.

As it is difficult to make a stationary bearing-surface in the frame, so-as to-support the panel flush with the upper surface of the frame, or to prevent the panel from springing to some slight extent, which, in the lastcase, would make the panel unsteady on its seat, adjusting-screws L are arranged at .each corner of the table, or at convenient points, which form practically the bearing for the panel to rest upon; therefore, by means of these screws, the panel may be adjusted relatively to the surface of the frame.

To reverse the table to change the game, it is only necessary to raise the panel from its seat and invert it, which is easily done by placing the hand beneath and pressing upon the panel.

We have described this table as with four sides only; but it may be made with more or the elevation of the panel, substantially as described.
