Description

Nov. 18, 1930. R. B. HULL SPEAK POLE FOR REMOVING PAPER FROM THE ROLLERS OF PAPER MAKING MACHINES Filed NOV. 23, 1929 V 4 ATTORNEY 1N VENTOR Patented Nov. 18, 1930 )UNITED STATE s PATENT OFFICE RAY B. HULL, or NEAR DAYTON, OHIO SPEAR POLE ron. REMOVING-PAPER FROM THE ROLLERS I or PAPER-MAKING v MACHINES.
ApnI icationfiIed November 23, 1929. Serial No. 409,385.
This invention relates to new and useful lmprovements 1n spear poles for removlng paper from the rollers of paper making mathey will chines when the same become clogged.
WVhen therollers of paper making machines become clogged, it is necessary tore move the paper by poles carrying knives. If hard wood poles are used for this purpose, frequently tear from the rollers the felt covering which is very expensive to replace.
On the other hand, solid soft wood poles, which will not tear the felt, are not strong enough to remove the paper from the rollers when they become clogged up.
To provide a,wood pole which will have suflicient strength to remove paper from the clogged paper-making machine rollers withthe structure is out tearing felt from them is the object of this. invention. Such a pole I construct of lami nated softwood such as 'white pine. B making it three ply, the strength of the pole is doubled and still it is soft enough not to injure the "felt on the rollers. a I
In the accompanying drawings illustrating my invention, view of my laminated spear pole. Figure 2 is a cross sectional view taken through the same before it is turned. And Figure 3 is a cross sectional view taken through the same after it has been turned. to cylindrical form.
Referring to the for a detailed description of my invention,
the numeral 1 designates a soft wood spear my hand this 20th Figure 1 is a perspective a lathe. The pole shown in Figures 1 and 3 is the result. It is strong enough to remove 7 paper from the clogged paper making machlne rollers without breaking, and will not injure the felt on them during the removal operation. 1 Having described my invention,-I claim: 1. i A laminated soft woodspearpole for re moving paper from the clogged up rollers of a paper making machine. A spear pole for removing paper from the clogged up rollers of a paper making machine, comprising a plurality of soft wood strips glued together and turned to cylindrical form. V
3. spear pole for removing paper from the clogged up rollers of a paper making machine, comprising three soft wood strips glued together and turned to cylindrical form, and atongue and groove connection 7 between the middle strip and the outer ones.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set day of November, 1929.
BAY B. HULL.
accompanying drawings receive tongues 5 projecting longitudinally from the inner surfaces of the sections 3fand' i The sections 2, 3 and 4 of the pole are glued together in a suitablepress to form the lami-v natedunitshown' in Figure2, afte r'which turned to'cylindrical form in 1
