the ends of the grate bars 11 may rest firmly upon the seat formed by the recess 16.
When in the condition of use, the pivotal 1y mounted portion 1 of the frame carrying the breaker plate and grate bars is bolted or otherwise secured to the fixed portion 1 sup-I porting the cross member 15 detachable bolts 1 for such purpose being shown in the drawings, and such movable portion may also be secured to the base. '7
The curve of the grate bars follows in its greater extent the path of the beaters or hammers so that any material dumped into the crusher and arrested and/0r. temporarily supported by said grate bars is subjected to a nipping action by the ends of said beaters or hammers, whose path of action is clearly indicated in Fig.
' This crusher is designed to act upon what may be termed steam shovel'feed which will include portions of rock, ore, coal,'and/ or the same where such material will be subjected to further impact by the beaters or hammers 6 to effect the desired reduction.
The facesof'the supporting ends 11 of the grate bars may be disposed in line with the wear members 10 carried by the breaker plate and serve in some measure as a part of the anvil against which the material supported by said grate bars is crushed.
When it is desired to gain access to the rotor structure for the purpose of repair or replacement of the beaters or hammers, or for the purpose of entirely removing the rotor structure, the portion 1 of the crushing frame carrying the breaker plate 7 may be disconnected from the fined portion 1 of the frame by removing the bolts 1, and then turned back on its hinge with the cross rod 9, as indicated by the broken'lines in Fig 1. This position of such movable portion also permlts removal and l f n of the gm 1 between the bars of said grate into said hopbars 11.
