This invention relates to improvements in pipe vises and benders and, more particularly, to'improvements on the pipe vise and ldated Oct. 16, 1928.
The present improvements comprise avsaddleattachment which `may bek applied to, or removed from, the base of the appliance, and chains connected tothe base and adapted bender set forth -in my Patent N o. 1,688,199,

Instead of providing a form which hasa complete web, the formis'substantially skeleton asshown at 41 and isprovided `with ribs 5 whichr provide the necessary strength, whereas the` skeleton form lightens the weight. y

lVhen a bend is to be made in an intermed-iate part ofthe pipe' 43,-it is not necessary to use theA pipe coupling or extra section aforesaid but the pipe itself is directly gripped byithe jaws 24 and 30.
ln any instance, however, where a bending operation is to be performed, the jaw 24 will be used to grip the pipe, or the coupling, `as the case may be.

Whenapplying the-pipe vise and bender to a square post, it may be directly connected thereto by screws or spikes driven through the holes 3, the saddle 44 being taken otf.
When the appliance is connected toa round post or pole, the saddle 44 is applied thereto, the nail 5() being driven through the hole 49 and into the .post or pole to suspend the appliance while the chains are being tightened. A link of one of the chains is then engaged with the'hook 55 and after the slack 'has been taken up, a linkof the other chain 5l is engaged withl the hook bolt. The nut 58 is then screwedup 'until the chains are tight around the pole or post.
What I claim is:
l. The combination'with a pipe, rod, conduit, or tube bender and vise having a base, of a saddle detachably connected to said base, enabling said saddle to be utilized or removed, separate chains each connected to the base and adapted to be passed around a pole or ,pos't, and an adjustable hook connector for detachably and adjustably connecting together the free parts of the chains.
2. The combination with a pipe, rod, conduit, or-tube bender and vise having a base,

enabling said saddle to be utilized or removed, `separate ychains each connected to the base and adapted to' be passed around a pole I or post, an adjustable hook connector comprising a, bearing plate having an eye and provided with a hook adapted to engage a link of one of the chains, Vand an adjustable 'a hook bolt provided with a nut, the shank of the bolt being slidable through the eye and the hook of said bolt being engageable with a link of the remaining chain, said connector being adapted to detachably and adjustably connect together the chains around the pole or post.
3. In a pipe, rod, conduit, or tube bender and vise, the combination with a body having a bending form provided with a groove and with an enlarged cavity adapted to receive a pipe coupling on the pipe, rod, conduit, or tube to be bent, whereby the bend ma be made at the end of said pipe, etc., an also having a socket or receiver into which one side of said cavity opens, the opposite wall of the cavity being provided with a notch adapted to receive another pipe section connected to the coupling, means for clamping said pipe, etc., and meansffor bending said pipe, etc.
4. In a pipe, rod, conduit, or tube bender and vise, the combination with a body having a bending form provided with a groove and with an enlarged cavity adapted toreceive a pipe coupling on the pipe, rod, conduit, or tube to be bent, whereby the bend may be made at they end of said pipe, etc., and also having a socket or receiver into which one side of said cavity opens, the opposite wall of the cavity being provided with a notch adapted to receive another pipe section connected to the coupling, a removable (jaw adapted to be located in said cavity, a
pipe vise having anadjustable jaw and means for operating said adjustablejaw, said adjustable jaw being adapted for use alone to secure the pipe when a coupling is used, or, said removable jaw being adapted for use in connection with the adjustable jaw to clamp a pipe when-no pipe coupling is used, andy means for bending the pipe.
5. In a pipe, rod, conduit or tube bender and vise, 'the combination with a body having a bending form, and movably mounted' bending means carried by said body, of a sadyen dle carried by said body having oppositely s disposed notches or bifurcations, independent chains connected to the body and adapted to enter the respective notches or bifurcations, and means for tightening the free parts of said chains. c
6. In apipe, rod, conduit or tube bender and vise, the combination with a body having a bending form, and bending means carried by said body, of a saddle carried by said body having oppositely disposed notches or bifurcations, separate chains separately connected to the body and adapted to enter the respectiveJ notches or bifurcations, and a multiple-part adjusting device directly con'- necting together the free ends of saidchains l for drawing together or lettingv out said chains and for securing said chains around a pole or post.
