The invention relates to sheet metal buildings and particularly to buildings adapted to be used 4-for gasoline filling stations and the like.
The object of the improvement is to provide` a sheet metal building of this character in which the whole structure is mounted upon a foundation and supported by columns located at the corners of the building, angular covers being provided for the columns upon the inter1or of the building; metal beams or other structural or ornamental members being attached by means of tie-rods extending through the columns to an anchor bolt in the concrete base upon which the sill is mounted; to provide a reinforced sheet metal sill having a structural channel member attached to lugs cast integral with the column base roviding a rigid framework for the attac ing of intermediate upright stud members, panels and sash; to provide hollow sheet metal panels and hollow sheet metal studs to which-the panels are connected providing air spaces in the walls of the building; to tprovide weather strips to covertheedges o the panels and arranged to be attached to the studs; and to enerally improve and simplify the constructwn of sheet metal buildings.
An embodiment of the invention thus set forth in general terms is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 lis 'a perspective view, with parts broken away, of a sheet metal building constructed in accordance with the invention;

The building is designed for use as a gasoline illing station or the like and is adapted to be erected upon a base l, of cement or the like, of substantially the size and shape of the plan of the building.
-An anchor bolt 2 is arranged to be imbedded in each cornice portion of the cement base`A and provided with a threaded cou ling 3 extended up through the surface o the cement.
A column 4 which may be a fluted tubular sheet metal column is mounted at each cor ner of the building to support the same. Each of these columns is arranged to be mounted upon a cast base 5 axially located over the anchor bolt at each corner portion o the foundation. If desired this cast base may be made of two pieces, the cast ring portion 5*L being mounted upon the annular iange 5b of the base proper and provided with an annular flange 6 at its u per side over which the lower flanged end o the sheet metal column is fitted as best shown in Fi 2.
A cap is mounted upon the up er eng of each sheet metal column 4, and eac cap may consist of a cast ring 7 provided with a flange 8, extended into the upper flanged end of the sheet metal column and arranged to fit upon the annular flange 9 upon the square castings 10. Lattice girders or I-beams 11 are mount ed u on the square caps l0 having the ianged per orated end portions 12 which receive the upper ends of the tie-bolts 13, connected at their lower ends to the couplings 3. A nut and washer 15 and 16 respectively may be mounted u on the upper threaded end of each tie-ro to secure the girders, caps, columns or base tightly in position upon the cement foundation.
Each girder is surrounded by a substantially rectangular sheet metal beam 17 which is provided not only for ornamental reasons but also as a means for attaching the upper ends of the studding as will be later described, the under side of each of these sheet metal beams being provided with a longitudinal pressed rib 18.
Structural channel sills 19 are mounted upon the cement foundation and extended between the corner columns, being arranged to V fit over the lugs formed upon the cast base 5.
The studs 21, preferably of cross sectional T-sliape, are located between the sills 19 and `beams 17, being provided at their upper and ing is preferably formed of panels 25 formed ofl spaced sheet metal walls each panel being provided at its lower edge with the depending flange 26 for engagement with tlie rib 23 upon the sill cover.
The upper edge of each of these panels is preferably provided upon its outer side with an inclined rectangular windev;r sill por.- tion 27.
The upper portion ofeach side Wall may be formed of sashes 28 provided with glass panes A29. Each of these sashes is provided at its lower edge with the angle stri 30 for engagement over the upper edge of die adjacent panel, at its upper edge with a similar angle strip 31 for engagement with the depending rib 18 of the beam. v
Each lof the studs is covered by means of a hollowchannel weather strip 33 which may be attached to the stud by means of screws or the like covering the joint between each' stud and the adjacent anels and sashes and not only closing the joint but also giving the building a finished appearance.
The side edges of the panels and sashes are provided with flange joints 35 which form permanent closures for the anels andV which extend across the base portions'of the studs and are received between the studs and the channel cover strips 33 as illustrated in Fig. e.

A roof truss 38 is bolted or otherwise connected upon the upper edges of the girders 11 at the -front and rear sides of the building and any suitable roof structure may be built thereon. For the purpose of giving the building a pleasing appearance an ornamental sheet metal cornice 39 may be connected to the end portions of the roof trusses and to\ the sheet metal beams 17 as by the flange 4l() extended into the channelgroove 41 of the beam.
We claim:
1. A sheet metal building including uprights, and hollow metal panels, located between' said uprights, said panels Vhaving ianged joints at their edges forming permanent closures for the hollow panels, and means connecting said flanges and said uprights.
2. A sheet metal building including hollow uprights, and hollow metal panels, located between said uprights, said panels having flanged joints at their edges forming permanent closures forthe hollow panels, and means connecting said lianges and said uprights. l v
3. A sheet metal building including sills at its lower portion, beams at its upper ortion, upright T-shaped studs connecte at their ends to the beams and sills, panels having flanges at their side edges extended over said studs, and weather stri s connected to the studs and engaging said anges, whereby the inner surfaces of the panels and strips are flush.
4. In sheet metal building construction including columns and girders supported on the columns, the combination of hollow beams' adapted to covery the girders, said hollow beams having depending longitudinal ribs, sills adapted to extend between the columns below said beams, -studs provided with channel ends engaging said ribs and sills, panels supported upon said sills andlocated between said studs, and means connecting the panels and studs.
5. In sheet metal building construction including columns and girders supported on the columns, the combination vof hollow beams adapted to cover the girders, said hollow beams having depending longitudinal ribs,
sills adapted to extend between the columns below said beams, studs provided with channel endsengaging said ribs and sills','panels supported upon said sills and located between said studs, means connecting the panels and studs, and sheet metal cornices connected to said hollow beams.
