Description

Nov. 11, 1930. c. TALLEY HOSPITAL CHART AND CARD HOLDER Filed March 12, 1928 gnvenfoz QM Jaw $1 attouwg Patented Nov. 11, 1930 UNITED STATES CHARLOTTE rams-nor NEW YORK, 1v. 5;.
nosrIrAL 01mm in cam). HOLDER Application filed March 12, 1928. Serial No. 260,825. I
My invention relatesto a combined chart and bed card holder for hospital use.
In general, the object of the invention is to provide a device of the class described, which is simple in construction and which may be easily and economically manufactured.
More specifically the object of the invention is to provide a metal holder which is adapted to-be easily, firmly and conveniently attached to the bar of a hospital bed and which will hold both the patients chart and identification bed card in such a manner that the identification bed card may be easily read on approaching the bed .and the patients chart may be accessible to the attending physician and kept by the holder in a clean, unfolded and untorn state. I
. The invention accordingly comprises an article of manufacture possessing the features, properties, and the relation of elements which will be exemplified in the article hereinafter described and the scope of the application of which will be indicated in the claims.
For a fuller understanding of the nature and objects of the invention reference should be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective View of the front of the holder showing the same mounted bed railing;
Fig. 2 is a sectional View thereof;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the rear of the holder; and
Fig. 4 is a detail view of the exemplified means for securing the holder in place.
The exemplified holder comprises a rectangular receptacle 10 of any suitable material, for example, sheet metal, having an unobstructed open top and providing a pocket adapted to receive a patients chart. Its front face is preferably cut away as indicated at 11 to permit the chart to be readily withdrawn therefrom. At the center of the rear portion of the box there is provided an extension 12 preferably formed integral with the rear of the box which may be of any suitable width,
ona
. for example one inch wide. This extension is'bent over to provide a hook for mounting the holder on a railing of a hospital bed such asshown at 13. Preferably, the hook shaped extension 12 also has a slight flexibility to permit it to be bent so .as to hang over railings of different size. In order to secure the holder firmly inplace upon a railing the rear face of the holder is formed with suitable securing means, for example with a hole 14 arranged to cooperate with a series of vertically aligned holes 15 formed in the free end of extension 12. A bolt 16 extends through the hole 1A and thence beneath the bed railing and through one or another of the holes 15 depending upon the size of the railing and the consequent position of the free end of the extension 12. The bolt is removably held in place, in the present instance, by a wing nut 17. Oh the front face of the box 10 there is provided a pocket for receivin and displaying an identification bed card. In the present instance this is provided by a metallic frame .18. A window 19 formed of glass or other transparent material may also be provided, if desired.
A holder constructed as herein shown and described is adapted for use in hospitals where charts must be kept at the bedside for quick use by the physician and each bed'must or should contain an identification card disposed in clear view. By this holder, the chart is immediately accessible and yet is preserved from tearing, blowing away or becoming dirty and illegible and the identification. card is immediately visible and immune from destruction. This holder can be fastened to the bed in such a manner as to be firm and obvious and yet convenient and unobstructing, and can be readily removed when necessary. Its metal construction preserves it from destruction. I.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is p 1. A hospital chart and bed card holder, comprising a rectangular shaped receptacle providing a pocket for the deposit of a hospital chart therein, and having a portion cut away from the top of the front face thereof to permit a chart therein to be readily grasped to withdraw the same, means con-- sisting of a frame to retain an identification bed card on the frontface of the receptacle, and means for 'adjustably suspending therece tacle from a bed railing of any of a number ofdifferent sizes, consisting of a hook,
on the back of the holder and adaptedto pass over a bed railing and down below the same, the back of said receptacle having a hole formed therein and the free end of said hook having a series of vertically aligned holes formed therein, a 'bolt extending through the hole in the back of the receptacle and through one of said series of holes to secure the hook u on the railing, and means on said bolt to hol the same removably but firmly in lace. p 2. A hospital chart and bed card holder, comprising a rectangular shaped receptacle having an unobstructed open top and providing a pocket adapted to receive a' hospital chart, the central upper ortion of the front face of said receptacle eing cut away to facilitate the removal of a chart therefrom, means providing a pocket on the front of said receptacle to removably retain and display a patients identification card, =said means comprising amember shaped in the form of a U, and means for holding said receptacle on a bed railing and comprising a slightly flexible hook integral with the back of said receptacle and havin a series of holes in its free end, the rear 0 said receptacle being formed with a hole therein, a bolt extending through said latter hole and through one of the holes in the free end of said hook to retain said receptacle in place on a bed railing, and means to hold said bolt in said position. I
- 3. A hospital chart and bed card holder, comprising a receptacle providing a pocket for the reception of a hospital chart, the upper portion on the front of the rece tacle ing provided with a recess to facilitate the removal of a chart contained therein, means comprising a frame formed generally in the shape of a U for holding a hospital.
identification card on the front of the receptacle, and means including a hook integral with the rear of the receptacle for supporting the receptacle from a patients bed.
4. A holder for a hospital chart and a relatively small bed card, comprising a receptacle providing a pocket for the reception of said chart, the front wall of said receptacle being cut away inwardly to a point beyond the normally exposed edge of said chart, means on said front wall comprising a frame for removably holding said bed card and located in such position as to permit unobstructed observation of said hospital chart, andt means for securing the holder to a suppo v 5. A holder for a hospital chart and a relatively small bed, card comprising a rece tacle providing a pocket or the reception 0 said chart, the front wall of said rece tacle being cut away inwardly toa point eyond the normally exposed edge of said chart, a U-shaped frame on said front wall adapted to hold said bed card removably inserted in the same, said frame being located on said front wall in such position as to permit unobstructed observation of said hospital chart, and means for securing the holder to a suport. P 6. A holder for a hospital chart and a relatively small bed card, comprising a receptacle providing a pocket for the reception of said chart, the front wall of-said receptacle being cut away to a point below the normally exposed upper edge of said chart,'means on said front wall comprising a frame for removably holding said bed card, said means being located in such position on said front wall as to permit unobstructed observation of the hospital chart, means includin a hook on said receptacle for supporting t e same from a patients bed, and adjusting means for securing said hook to the patients bed, the position to be adjusted from a point made accessible by the cutting away of said front wall.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
CHARLOTTE TALLEY.
