Definitions

  • My improved nut-lock consists of a washer of steel over a cavity in the fish plate, and surrounding the bolt, so that the pressure on the bolt on the fish-plate is transmitted to the surface of the plate surrounding the cavity by the washer, allowing of any required amount of pressure, and at the same time being a spring with sufficient reactionary power against the nut at all times to prevent it from becoming slack, so as to work off or unscrew.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ISAAC VAN KURAN, of Omaha, Douglas county, Nebraska, have invented a new and Improved Nut Look. of which the following is a specification:
My improved nut-lock consists of a washer of steel over a cavity in the fish plate, and surrounding the bolt, so that the pressure on the bolt on the fish-plate is transmitted to the surface of the plate surrounding the cavity by the washer, allowing of any required amount of pressure, and at the same time being a spring with sufficient reactionary power against the nut at all times to prevent it from becoming slack, so as to work off or unscrew.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a rail joint with my improved nut-lock, and Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken on the line 00 00.-
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the spring-washer; B, the cavity in the fish-plate 0, over which the washer is arranged; D, the nut, and E thebolt.
A nut locked to its bolt by a springwasher,
