10 daily life, particularly in the household. For
instance, there are cleansing agents for removingink spots, others for removing grease andgum, and still others for removing rust "and grass stains, etc; but no'one of these 115 gentswill do byitself for all of these difcle, on llne 6 -.6 of Fig. 4, showing the botferent kinds of spots. y It is the chief object of the present inven- "tionto make up a package of an improved type out offanumber of diiferent kinds of cleansing agents, each in a separate container in such a manner as to provide a single, unitary, article in the form ofa permanent package-setadapted p'articularly well for display, but still better-adapted for use as ahousehold 5 conveniencecapable of taking care ofall spotremoving and other cleaning-needs.
is a particular object of the invention to provide a. package which will have means for holding" these separate containers in small compass, yet in such a way that they cannot 'collide with each other during shipping and break or spill, or become disarranged, and wherebyjready access, easy removal, and simplicity of handling will not be hindered, but will instead be enhanced.
' It is a further particular objectof the invention to improve the structure of certain of the; elements of which packages are made,
40 primarily to cheapen the cost of production of the package, but also to so simplify and strengthen the structureasya framework, as to adapt it to successfullywithstand the hard battering incident to shippingand service,
5 :and atltheysame time to' confer upon it into the packag 1192s. SerialNo 279,673. I
its embodiments only by the scope of the subjoined claims. i 3 In thesedrawihgsv F'g. 1 is a perspective of one of the package formingelements before being assembled Fig. 2 is a perspective of another one of the package forming elements by itself; l
Fig. 3 isla perspective of the completed package ready for display or use;
Fig. 4 is a section on line 4-4 of Fig. 3
showing the structure of one "of the packing elements; I i i Fig. 5 is a section on line 5-5 of Fig. 4,"and Fig. 6 is a section partlyin plan, of the artitom andside structure of the completed package." I r y In the form of theinvention shown in the drawings, all the parts used in making up the package are contemplated as beingmade of some suitablesheet-material flexible enough to permit of the parts being easily bent into shape, and then have their ends united bysimple fastening means, such as eyelet-brads,l2, or the like. i n
One of these package parts consists of a strip of sheet-material 8, most clearly shown 'in Fig. 2, of such afiexible nature that it can passing through thepunch-holes 10 and-10", thus forming a substantially rectangular frame 8 on and around which the rest'of the package is built. The strip 8 in addition has its lower edges, all around, bent or shaped into a substantially horizontal extension to thereby form'flanges 20. A
- Another one of the packageelenients con,- sists of a moreextensive sheet'of' more flexible {material '5. This member is supported on and within the'fraine 8 by'its upper ends onlyywhich are turned up for suspension from the upper edges of two oppositesides of the frame 8, as shown in Figs. 4 and 5. Thismember thus actsas a sort of spring cushion due to its flexibility and manner of attachment, and'absorbs all the shocks and strains which would otherwise come on the containers 6 to their detriment. The member 5 is prevented from sagging down out of the open bottom of the package, under the weight of the containers, when it contacts near its middle with the flanges if preferred, however it may be attached to these flanges, at any desired place and by any suitable fastening means, such as the eyelets 23.
i The third member of the package is a lid preferably made of a sheet of semi-flexible material 7, which lid clamps down over and around all the upper edges of the fra'me'or base-member 8 except the back edge. The rack or suspension member 5 therebyhas the receptacles or the like pressed down and sidewise against it and the containers: are thus held in a small compass yet safe from harm. The member 7 has three of its edges turned down, asshown, to engage over the edges of the member 8, and is attached so as to-clear along its fourth edge to both the frame and the rack. This attachment, whereby the spring effect of the rack 5 is preserved, is made by suspendingthe member 5 from the top edge of two sides of the frame 8 by the same means'as by which the lid is attached to the frame.
-In the preferred form of this suspension, an extra long eyeletor brad or the like, 12, is passed through the upper ends of the member 5, through the frame 8, and then anchored over the rear ends of the two side edges of the member 7. There is thus evolved a combined pivot, attaching, and'bracing structure, as shown best in Fig. 4, without the use of any loose or expensive parts which preserves the spring-eifect of the rack, yet is sturdy enough to serve well under the abuses a package of this kind receives. r
The sheet 5 is provided with a number of troughs or transverse grooves 30, which are pressed in the flexible'material, and can thus varyin size and shapecr be distorted under the pressure of the various shapes of articles made up into a package-set according to the present invention. These articles usually comprise a plurality of cylindrical containers, 6, under the middle one of which is placed a zinc-plate6 and av folded piece of cliainoisfi. This element 5 is quite flexible, the containers 6 and other articles which are to be packed, do not necessarily have to be of a cylindrical shape, since when the third member of the package is forced down on these containers, the strip 5 will be slightly but sufficiently, distorted by the-pressure of the .containers in such a manner that the containers will be satisfactorily held yieldingly together to prevent collision, yet in predetermined spaced relation sufliciently wide for easy access. Thismember 5 thus constitutes at one and the same time, a rack holder,.and a suspension cushion protective member,
3 thereby obviating special outside protective packing for shipping, yet without increasing the cost.
By the present invention, there is thus provided an improved household article ready for instant use to meet all needs for any kind of a spot-remover, yet having such a structure that it permanently retains its original form, withstanding well the abuses and accidents arising in the home or in shipping, yet constituted bythese same means, an article of quite a pleasing and attractive appearance.
I claim:
1; Ap'ackage of liquid cleaning-materials in receptaclesincluding a container comprising a frame having an open bottom, a flexible member suspendedfrom the top edges of two sides thereof for'carryi'ng the receptacles and having formations thereon for protecting the receptacles from contacting with each other and with outside objects, said frame having its lower edges all around formed into substantially horizontal flanges andextended under said flexible member a suflicient distance to prevent said member from sagging down and out of the package under the weight of the receptacles.
2., A cleaning material package, comprisin a main package-forming portion of flexible sheet-material having formations for resiliently holding a,plurality of liquid containers in frictional relation to itself and to each. other therein, portions of said sheetmaterial' extending up between said containers, anotherv portion; formed vertically aroundand horizontally under the edges of said main portion and comprising a strip of substantially rigid. material having its ends united, and a piece of semi-flexible sheet material hingedly attached to saidmain portion and swingable downwardly for clamping said containers in said main portion.
3. A package-of liquid cleaning materials, comprisinga package-outlining base portion, said portion having formations therein for holding together a plurality ofv liquid. containers, said formations preventing. saidcontainers from contacting, each other and from changing'location in the package, a member swingably attached to two corners of said base portion and supported when in its lowered position by said containers, and another package-portion. comprising a single strip of sheet-material formed vertically around said base portion, and having its lower edges turned horizontally and having its sides united to the base portion by the same means whichattach said swingable memberto the base portion.
4. In apackage of the class described, a bott01n-p0rtion having a corrugated surface for holding a plurality of cylindrical containers in spaced relation therein, and having; each end turned up, a four square guard portion attached around said ends, and a member for clamping-said containers in said bottom, comprising a portion ofsheetmaterial hingedly attached to the bottom over and through the upper part of said guard strip to thereby hold said strip and said member to said bottom.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
