Description

,Nov. 4, 1930. c E, ANDERSON" 1,780,163
STAND Filed Jan. 25, 1929 ATTORN Patented Nov. 4, 1930 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE) CARL E. ANDERSON, OF EAST ORANGE, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO EASTERN TOOL &: MEG. 00., 0F BLOOMFIELD, NEW JERSEY STAN D Application filed January 23, 1929.
This invention relates to an improved display stand'and is of the type that is adapted to be packed flat in a boX of goods to be displayed and is to be extended and supplied withgoods when the goods are to be sold, the goods support being rotatable on a base. This rotatable stand allows the support to be turned to select goods and to allow inspection of both sides of the stand.
The device can be cheaply manufactured and is therefore adaptable for supply with the goods.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which, Figure 1 is a side view of a stand arranged flat for packing with a placard shown in dotted outline. Figure 2 is an end view of the device shown in Figure 1 but with the legs of the base extended for supporting the post of the article. Figure 3 is a perspective view of a clip used in the device shown in Figures 1 and 2. Figure 4 is a side view of a modified form of placard support and Figure 5 is a vertical section on the centre of Figure 4.
The stand comprises a standard or post 10 which is supported on a base consisting of two legs of bridge-like form. These legs 11 and 12 are provided with holes for receiving the post 10 and freely rotatable. They are practically of the same form and can be easily nested as shown in Figures 1 and 4. When they are crossed as in Figure2 they are held against turning relative to each other as one of them, 11, has an off-set portion 13 of the width of the other leg. This locks them as will be seen from Figures 2 and 5. A stop 14, as a nut, is above the legs and a nut 15 is on the rod below them. When the nut 15 is screwed up tight the legs are held in their nested or extended positions as the case may be.
The device for holding goods or a placard on the post is also substantially fiat to allow the whole article to be packed flat in a box. Such device is shown in Figures 1, 2 and 3 and consists of one or more clips 16 which are U-shaped and have a central hole 17 for receiving the post 10. On the ends of the clip are a projection or projections 18 of bendable material, as is the clip and they Serial No. 334,544.
form prongs that can be pushed through a card 19 and the card thus fastened in place. The clip is preferably made of soft sheet metal which is easily bent and the hole 17 is placedin the cross strip of the U-shaped clip. A stop, such as the punched part 20 prevents the articles being lifted from the post. The bottom clip rests on the nut 14 and acts as a hearing when the placards are rotated.
In Figures 4 and 5, I show a frame 21 with side channels 22 and a bottom channel 23. A top channel 24 is narrower than the others and placards are slid down outside of 24 but inside the edges of 22 and 23. The top and bottom channels 23 and 24 are perforated to receive the post 10.
Various changes can be made in the de vice without departing from the scope of the invention.
I claim 1. A stand comprising a post, a pair of legs of bridgedike form and adapted to be nested while on the post, and having holes through which the post passes, a stop on the post above the legs and a nut on the post underneath the legs.
2. A stand comprising a post, a pair of legs of bridge-like form and adapted to be nested while on the post, and having holes through. which the post passes, a stop on the post above the legs and a nut on the post underneath the legs, one of the legs having an off-set portion at the centre and of the width of the other leg.
3. A stand comprising a base and rotatable post thereon, a U-shaped clip on the post and having a hole in the cross-strip thereof to receive the post,-the clip having an outwardly projecting bendable car at the end thereof.
4. A stand comprising a base and a rotatable post thereon, a U-shaped clip on the post, and having a hole in the cross-strip thereof to receive the post, and bendable ears projecting from the end of the clip to secure a placard thereon.
5. A stand comprising a post, a placard support rotatable on the post, a projection on the post for preventing the placard support from being raised from the post, a pair of legs with one off-set to receive the other When they are crossed, a nut of the post acting as an abutment for the legs and a second nut on the post for securing the legs, the legs being adapted for nesting and both rotatable on the post.
In testimony whereof he aifixes his signature.
CARL E. ANDERSON.
