IMPROVEMENT IN BOTTLE-STOPPERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178,006, dated May 30, 1876; application filed 4 January 7, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MATHI AS JOSEPH Hm- DEN, of Detroit, in the county of Wayne, and State of Michigan, have invented an Improvement in Bottle-Stoppers, of which the following is a specification The nature of my invention relates to an improvement in bottle-stoppers of that class wherein an elastic stopper is hung by a bail to the wire band around the neck of the bottle, and is compressed upon the mouth of the bottle by swinging up the bail; and it consists in the peculiar construction and combination of the 1netallic. stopper-cap and an eccentrically-slotted segment with the swinging bail, as more fully hereinafter set forth.

In the drawing, A represents the neck of a bottle, molded with the usual ball at below the mouth. B is a Wire collar below the bail, with an eye, b, turned in it at each side, in which is inserted a hook at each end of a bail, G,
which passes through an eccentric or curved slot, d, ina vertical rib molded on top of a metal cap or plug, D, on whose shank is fitted the conicalrubber stopper D, adapted to enter the mouth of the bottle when the bail is at the lower and outer end ofthe slot. To keep the stopper in its proper position to enter the bottle, a collar, 0, is soldered or otherwise formed on the bail at each side of each side, all constructed and arranged substantially as described and shown.
