This invention relates to a shore and more particularly to an adjustable shore. f It has particular utility'as a support for theforms used in concrete building construction, although its utility extends to any'use requiring a temporary support. In concrete building construction it is v necessary .to support the forms or molds for the concrete floors 7 and other parts of the building during: its erection by props or shores founded uponthe adjacent I sub -structure. The means for moving the movable member on the fixed member may be called generally the jack assembly of the shore. This-means com rises the sleeve 22 externally threaded at 23 ad ing an outwardly extending lug 24 adjacent body of the sleeve, are each provided with horizontally aligned openings 25 and 26, while the sleeve has another opening 26 in horizontal axial alignment with opening 26. A .U-shaped pin 27, one arm of which is shorter than the other, is slidably fitted within these-openings. The longer arm of the pin is rovided with a rivet or other retaining memr 28, at itsend to prevent complete with- 25 drawal of the pin through theopening 25.
The shorter arm of thepin is adapted to extend through various of the openings 5 in the fixed member when such openings have'been aligned with the openings 26 and 26 of the sleeve. In this way the sleeve may be'adjustably secured on the fixed member and an initial approximate adjustment of the shore ob tained. If desirable the pin 27 may be provided with a notched portion 29 adaptedto ll! engage with the lug 24 so as to prevent the pin being jarred loose while the shore is in adjustedposition. An internally threaded nut 30 is rotatably mounted on the sleeve. This nut 30 hasan annular flange 31 at its I. upper end whichis retained between the washare 14 and the bottom 10 of the shoe 9. In this way the nut is free to. rotate on the sleeve while at the same time it will impart rectilinear'movement to the shoe and hence to the & movable member. The nut is provided with an operating handle 32 which may be either integral therewith or otherwise connected.

In operation, the shoe is placed in the position in which it is to be used and the foot 4 is secured to the base. The approximate adjustment of the shore to the height required is effeoted by withdrawal of the pin 27 and the movement of the sleeve 22 to the desired position, whereupon the pin 27 is again inserted through the aligned openings in the sleeve and pipe 3. When in this position the head block 7 should be almost or lightly in engagementwith the underside of the form which the shoreis to support. 7 Then the nut 30 is ro titted-by the handle 32, in the proper direction to move upwardly on the sleeve 22. This movement of the nut, becauseof its engageg ment with the underside of the shoe 11,1forces its lower end. The lug 24, as well as the main on the sleeve which results in the flange 31 hearing against the washer 14 and causing the movable member 2 to descend both because of the pulling act-ion exerted thereby and be- "ca-useof gravity. As the member 2 descends the pipe 3 will pass through the openings 21 in aptedto slidably fit on the pipe 3 and hav-"' the various braces 16, and the upper conical end of the pipe facilitates this passage. It will thus be seen from the forcgoi n g descrip tion that the shore is formed of a relatively few number of parts,'is of strong construction, rigidly braced and permits of a first and approximate adjustment, and then a final and accurate adjustment.
Although the embodiment of the invention illustrated is a preferred one the invention should not be understood as limited thereto, sinceit is susceptible of man y variations and adaptations within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is: I I
1. A shore comprising a movable member, afixed member having a series of spaced openings therethrough, a threaded sleeve arranged on said fixed member and having an outwardly extending lug at its lower end, said sleeve and said lug each having horizon .tally aligned openings therethrough, a pin slidably arranged in said openings and adapted to be'selectively engaged in the spaced openings in the fixed member so as to adjustably position the sleeve thereon, and a nut on said sleeve adapted when rotated tomove said movable member. 2. A shore comprising a fixed member and .a movable member telescopically arranged,
an externally threaded sleeve on said fixed member, an internally threaded nut on" said sleeve, said movable member being provided with a shoe at its lower end having down wardly extending bosses on its underside and means carried by said bosses and cooperating with the nut so as to allow the latter to rotate gndto operatively mox e 'the' movable memer.
