CLOSURE FASTENER Filed July 13, 1928 fzwentar WIT/5km er Attarnqy B, QM
Patented Get. 14, 1930 PATENT OFFICE WILLIAM T. KRUEGER, OF HAMILTON, MICHIGAN CLOSURE FASTENER Application filed July 13,
This invention pertains to new and useful improvements in closure fasteners, and aims to provide a fastener of simple construction, capable of being manufactured at a nominal 6? cost, and the prime object of the invention being to provide a closure fastener of the hook and eyelet type, wherein means is associated with the hook member to prevent the accidental engagement of the same with the 10 eye member after former has been disengaged from said eye member. 7
In the use of hook and eye type closure fasteners, heretofore, it frequently occurs that the hook member which is usually pivot ally mounted accidentally swings against the member during the movement of the closure, and engages with the eye member for fastening the closure against the wish of the proprietor.
The invention includes as a further object, the provision of means whereby the hook member will be adjusted away from the eyelet after the disengagement of the same, so that it will be practically impossible for the same to be accidentally engaged without manual assistance.
After considering the following specification and claim, other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent.
In the drawings Figure 1 represents a fragmentary side end elevation of a closure and frame structure showing the improved closure fastener in fastened position, and
Fig. 2 a similar elevation showing the chr e fastener in disengaged position.
to the drawings, wherein like 40 numerals designate like parts, a closure A. such as a screen door or the like, and a frame B, is fragmentarily shown in the drawings, and illustrate the manner of association of the present invention, therewith.
In carrying out the present invention, an elongated plate 1 is secured by suitable screws 2 in a vertical position against the inner side of the closure A. This plate may be of suitable shape and design, and is pro- 50 vided with a pair of vertically spaced collars 1928. Serial No. 292,514.
38, projecting outwardly from the plate 1 with their openings in alinement.
An elongated slidable member 4 is slidably disposed within the collars 3-3, and is limited in its reciprocatory movement by an eye member 5, projecting laterally from the intermediate portion thereof, and which is adapted to abut the collars 33, when moved to its opposite extremes.
A hook 6 is pivotally connected to the eye 5, whereas its hooked end 7 is engageable with eye screws 8, threaded into the outer frame B.
In the use of this novel closure fastener, the slidable member ais lifted upwardly and the hook 6 engages with the eye screw 8, in a manner shown in Fig. 1, for fastening the closure. When the hook 6 is disengaged from the eye screw 8 and released, the slidable member a will gravitate and ultimately result in the disposition of parts as shown in Fig. 2.
Any movement of the closure will not result in the engagement of the hook (3 with the screw 8, in view of the spaced disposition of the former, in respect to the latter, in this disengaged position of parts.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is A closure fastener of the character described comprising a plate secured to the closure adjacent the jamb portion thereof, a slidable member on said plate disposed in substantial parallel. relation the nb portion of the ca re, and a hook swingah carried by said sndable m nher and ca; of be ng swung to a "-osieton crossing jamb xnrtion of the c;
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
