It has been proposed, heretofore, to employ rubbererasers or scrapers for removing ink from paper surfaces. The objectionable features of these methods are that the bits of erasure left by erasing accumulate and be come unsightly, and when aforesaid methods are used in connection with a typewriter, the

bits of erasure fall into the mechanismof the typewriter, thereby impairing its efiiciency.

" An object ofmy invention is to provide an eraser by means of which the ink marks are obliterated without leaving bits of erasure.

A further object of my invention is to provide an eraser whereby a mark may be obliter- F 1-20 ated with minimum effort.

A further object is to provide an eraser having a permanent handle inorder thatit may be securely heldin the hand.

A further object of the invention is to provide an eraser which collects the bits of erasure as it is operated.

, n In carrying out my invention, I provide a Q hollow body portion 1, one end of which is integral with an arcuate-shaped head or member 2. 2. A device of the type described comprising a hollow body portion, an arcuate-shaped supporting member carried by said body portion and having an opening therethrough, an arcuate-shaped raised portion integral with said supporting member, a cutting member disposed upon said raised portion, a cover member disposed upon said supporting member for securing said cutting member to said raised portion, said cutting memberhaving a cutting edge extending beyond one edge of said cover, and means for securing said cover to said supporting member whereby said cover may be moved toward or away from said supporting member for varying the distance at which the cutting edge extends beygnd the edge of said cover, said opening ing adapted to direct bits cut by said cutting member into said body portion.

An erasing device comprising a hollow handle portion provided with a head, a flexible cutting blade carried by said head, and means for flexing the blade for varying the length thereof, said head being provided with an opening communicating with the interior of the handle for receiving particles severed by said. blade.

An erasing device comprising a hollow handle portion provided with a head having an arcuate-shaped portion, a flexible cutting blade disposed adjacent said arcuate-shaped portion and having its cutting edge project- 7 ing slightly beyond the exterior of a portion of the head, and means operatively connected with the head for flexing the cutting blade for increasing or decreasing the amount'of M blade projecting beyond said head, said head being provided with a passageway communicating with the interior of the hollow handle portion for receiving particles severed by the blade. 7

An erasing device comprising a grip-- ping portion provided with a head having a raised portion, means movable relatively with respect to the head and carried thereby, said means being provided with a recess substantially conforming to said raised portion and arranged in alignment therewith, and cutting means substantially conforming to the contour ofsaid recess and disposed there-
