A. A. PECK.
EXPANDING WELL-CURIBS.
Ill
ATTDBNEYS;
ALEXANDER AQ PEOK, or HAMMOND, WISCONSIN.
IMPROVEMENT IN EXPANDING wELL-cuR s.
Specification formin tm of Letters Patent .1 77,743, dated May 23,1876; application filed Apri14, 1876.
To all whomit may Mam.-
Be it known that I,,ALExANDER A. Pack,
of Hammond, "St. Qroix county, Wisconsin, have invented a new-and ImprovedExpand-Z ingWell-Ourb, of which the following is a specification My invention consists of an expanding curl to be used forcement-linin g wells, constructed with a sectional shell of vertical planks and sheet-metal plates for lapping the joints, and with adjustable arms and expanding rims, which are coupled to a center shaft by which the shell is expanded and contracted and also shifted along as. the work progresses, all as hereinafter described Figure l is a top view of my improved wellfor expanding and contracting the curb.
The metal lapping-plates are attached to the outside of the planks, near. one edge, to overlap the next plank, and the expandingarms are attached to one plank and fitted in the clip G of the next to slide in and out as the shell expands and contracts. The clips serve to hold the sections of the shell, so that they do not shift endwise relatively to each other. The adjusting-arms are pivoted-to the expanding-rims at H, and theylengthen and shorten,as'required,' at their jointl, and are fastened, when properly adjusted, by the setscrew J. The arms are pivoted, at the. inner end, 'to' thev ring K, which is connected to the center shaft F, to be liftedfor contracting the curb, sov as to shift it along, and, after shifting it, to press down and expand the shell. The
shaft has a yoke, M, by which to hitch the rope on for raising and lowering the curb.
Having thus described in y inven tion, I claim I as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination of the sectional shell A, expanding sectional rims O, adjusting-arms D 'E, ring K, and shaft F, substantially as speci- 2. The combination of the. metal joint-lapping plates B and the sectional curb A, substantially as specified.
3; The arms D E, constructed with an aid-- justing -joint, I, and set-screw J, and jointed to the expanding-rims and the ring K, substan tially asspecified.
