IMPRQVEMENT IN CIGARETTE-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 177,732, dated May 23, 1876; application filed Y october 23,1875.
To alLwhom it may concern: l
Be it known that we, JOSEPH MARENGo andALEXANDRE MARENGO, of Montreal, in the Provinceof Quebec and Dominion of Ganf ada, have invented a new and Improved Cigarette-Machine, of which 'the following is a specification: The invention consists in combining with an adjustable roll, endless belt, and operative mechanism, a pair ot' rolls arranged on armsone rigid, and the other hinged, the former provided with a stop, and the latter with a regulatingscrew, as hereinafter described.
Figure l is a side elevation, and Fig. 2 is a sectional eleva-tion, of our improved machine.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A and B represent the rollers, and C the endless belt, by which the cigarette is formed by rolling it in a bight of the belt, as repre-A sented at D. In order to facilitate the introducing of the tobacco into this bight of the belt, and removing the cigarette, we now arrange the roller B in supports E, which turn on the pivot D, and are connected by arms F and rod G with the foot-treadle H, so that, by pressing the treadle down after putting in the tobacco, the rollers will be closed on the tobacco, so as to roll it properly into shape. Thel spring I throws-'the roller back when the foot is lifted off the treadle. The slack of the belt is regulated by the vertically-adjustable rollers K, the frame of which is fastened at any required point by set-screws L.
We are aware that the-general idea ofemploying rollers in connection with an endless belt in the manufacture of cigars is not new; but
by using upon the stationary arms E lugs or stops, and upon the movable ones regulatingscrews, the approximation of the rolls A B is detlnitely gaged, according to the size of cigar that is being made.
Having thus described our invention, we 'claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patenty The combination, with endless belt C and roller K on sliding frame, of the `rollers A B, arranged in arms E E, one of which arms is provided with adjustable screws, and the other with lugs or stops, to regulate the closeness of approach of the said rolls A B,.substantially as and for the purpose specified.
