t This invention relates to sliding bolts of the type adapted for use on doors and the like, and it is thev object of the invention to provide an extremely simple and inexpensive construction tensioning the bolt in its guide Vbracket and limiting its retraction and projection while providing convenient means for assembling the device.
, More particularly it is the object of the invention to provide for inexpensive manufacf ture by stamping out the guide bracket at one operation so that integral parts of the bracket form means for vtensioning the bolt and limiting its movement, the bolt being 31,5 adapted for mounting in the bracket by merely a slidingV engagement andwithout the necessity :torv skilled manipulation ot any kind.
Further objectsof the invention will be readily understood from the following de-y scription of the which:
Fig. l is a perspective view of the device. F ig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section through the same. 1 Fig. 3 is a transverse section` on the line 8`3 of Fig. 2. s The guide bracket for the bolt is adapted for mounting on a door or the like inusual 3o manner, and isstamped out at one operation so as to form not only the guide loops for the bolt and the openings for mounting screws, but also provide an abutment Jfor limiting movement of the bolt and a protuberance Jfor tensioning the bolt in its guide loops.
As in instance ofsuch construction an elongatedplate l may be formed with lateral ears 2 having openings 3 adapted to receive suitable mounting screws, and guide loops l curve outwardly from the plate and are formed by making pairs of parallel transverse `slits in theplate in longitudinally spaced relation. `The rear end of the plate, shown at la, projects longitudinally beyond the rear ears V2 and loop and at its outer end has an abutment 5 for-limiting retractionof the bolt. The face of plate l is also provided with a protuberance 6 midway between the Ouide loops t and in longitudinal alinement tiere- 50 with.
accompanying drawings, in
iii-2t 182,659.- lli The bracket* asfthusf described is an inl A 'tegral structure formed byfa ysingle stamping operation, the abutment 5 and protuberan'c'e being` made by indenting theuundersidefof 'platt-S11 and, thereby raising the face thereof, `aty thesame time that the outline ofthe plate isstamped outiandtlie openings Sand `the A slits for loops ,4 are -formed therein and the guide loops are curved -outwardly vfrom the pianeofgthe plate. v' y w1' *65 "1@ Ato1t`7 is adaptedytofsiide longitudinally y 'of-"plate 'l inguide'flops 4,' and at 'its under; side 'is preferably Hat andforms one .continu-y` ous' plane sur-face as` shown at 8.7 An oper# ating knob 9 projectsromtheubolt Vadjacent its rear end so that it "is in" back O the `rear guide loop when the structur'e'is 'assembled asShown1nifirig;iY 1.t1ieapa15tjsbeing s0-arranged wthat wlill'lthboltis projetedht operative*position-with its forward end eX- i tending .beyond its supporting bracket its n movement is limitedby abutment of knob 9 against the rear guide loop 4, and when the `bolt is retracted to inoperative position Vwith its forward end no longer projecting be ond the supporting bracket. the rear. end o? the bolt vis engaged by abutmentv 5 in order to Y prevent disengagement of the bolt from its support.
Vlien mounting the bolt in its guide loops the rear end la of the supporting plate is bent downwardly as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2 so that the bolt will clear abutment 5 when being slipped into the loops; and with the parts thus assembled the flat underside of the bolt is slidably engaged by protuberancev` 6 so that the latter tensions the, bolt against' its guide loops and thereby prevents rattling. Y
After assembling the parts the plate end ,laL is bent back into normal position in the plane of plate 1 so that abutment 5 is adapted for engagement by the rear end of the bolt; and when thesupporting bracket is mounted on a door or the like the screws extending through openings tighten the entire plate structureagainst the surfacer of the door so that the end 1a is retained in normal position preventing displacement of the bolt.
The construction'thusprevents rattling or "mn accidental sliding movement kof the bolt and v limits its retraction and projection so as to maintain assembled relation; and the device may be inexpensively manufactured since Vthe entire supporting bracket is formed at one operation and, the bolt isfmopntepl therein by simply aplidips engagement ,requiring no tedious or skilled assembling operation.
