UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDERICKJ. SEYMOUR, OF WOLCOTTVILLE, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN EGG-BEATERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 17%',574, dated May 16, 1876; application filed f l October 16, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK J. SEY- MOUR, of Wolcottville, in the county of Litchfield and State of Connecticut,- have invented an Improvement in Egg-Beaters, of which the following is a specification Egg-beaters have been made with floats or I beaters ot' metallic stripsbcnt to form one bow within another, and these are revolved by pinions and a gear-Wheel turnedv by hand.
In consequence of the shaft ot one pinion passing through the other pinion, there has been difficulty in connecting the beater or float to this pinion. This has sometimes been done by inserting the ends of the Wire oats or beaters into the hub ofthe pinion. This construction is not firm, and the floats are liable to separate from the pinion.
My improvement is made for removing the Aaforesaid difficulties and securely fastening These parts are similar to those in egg-beat ers described in Letters Patent heretofore allowed to me, except that the pinion e is provided Wit-h a polygonal hub, z', to the sides of which t-he floats or beaters l are attached by means of rivets o o, that are driven in against a mandrel, that is inserted into the hole of the pinion and afterward Withdrawn. This mode oi'attaching the floats Z insures strength and permanence. and does not interfere with the shaft n., that passes through the pinion e and .hub and receives the inner oat or beater 1'. I do not claim a hub to the pinion of the egg-beater, as the same has in some instances been employed and received into holes, the ends of the Wires forming the beaters or floats;
I claimv as my invention- The egg-beater made witha polygonal hub, i, upon the pinion e, and beaters or floats ot' at metallic strips lattached to the iiat sides of the hub by rivets, upset at their inner ends by contact with a mandrel inserted in the hole for the shaft, on which said pinion revolves, as and for the purposes set forth.
Signed by me this 14th day of October, A. D. 1875.
