PATENT OFFICE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SCRAPERS'.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 177.573, dated May 16, 1876; application filed March 27, 1876.
. To all whom it mayconoern:
- Be it known that I, BENAMMI SELPH, of Lynchburg, in the county of Highland and Stateof Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rotary Scrapers; and
I do hereby declare that the following isa full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which forinpartof this specification.
The nature of'my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a roadscraper, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In orderto enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 isa plan view, and Fig. 2 a side elevation, of my invention.
The frame of myroadscraper consists of a metal bar, bent to form two curved parallel side arms, AA, connected at their rear ends by a cross-bar, B,.all in one piece. The front ends of the arms A A are connected by a bar,
G, fastenedthereto, and provided with a central eye, 0, -or other device, for attaching the team. I D D represent two nearly-circular irons, between which thescrape'r E is fastened. These irons are provided with radial arms D,
pivoted to the arms A of theframe, as shown. In the back edge of each iron D, at or near 3 V the center, is'mado a notch, a, into which takes a bar, G, sliding upon the rear portions of the arms A, and pressed forward by a spring,
scraper can go on continuously by simply drawing the spring-bar and leaving it to return to the notches by its own action.
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
, Thecombination, in a road-scraper, of the rectangular frame A B G, circular irons D D,
having notches a a in their rear edges, the
arms D, rigidly connected to the center of the irons D, the scraper-plate E, secured be tween the irons, and the sliding bar G, having thimbles which surround the bars A, and the flat spring b, all constructed substantially as and forthe purposesherein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
. BENAMMI SELPH.
