wealth of Massachusetts, have invented a Measuring-Faucet or Liquid-Meter. I The object of my invention is to construct a faucet or meter which shall measure and register such measurement of liquid as it is passed through the same, by means of a measuring tank having at its inlet a ball-andsocket 'valve, opened by a cam and rod, the cam being attached to a shaft extending down to a faucet placed in the bottom of a measuring-tank, and so arranged that when one is opened the other is closed, and having a cam attached to the shaft on the outside and above the top, which operates the registering mechanism; and I do declare that the following is such a full, clear, and exact description thereof that any person skilled in the art to which it appertains can construct and use the same, reference being had to theaccompanying drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon, for a more exact description thereof, like letters indicating the same parts in each of the figures, of which- Figure 1 represents a' sectional view of my invention, showing the infiowing pipe, the ball and socket valve, the discharge-faucet, cam, winch, stuffing-box, registering-cam, and vent; Fig. 2, a cam in a position when closing the balland socket valve, the dotted lines showing its position when open; and Fig. 3, a faucet in the bottom of the measuring-tank, the arrow showing the direction of the flow of liquid.
A is a measuring-tank, designed to receive liquid through E and measure the same; B, a pipe containing a ball-and-socket valve, and designed to receive liquid desired to be measured; O, a rubber ball, designed to act as a valve within B, being held by pressure of water to its seat D, a rod, designed to force the ball 0 from its seat and allow liquid to flow into A; E, a bracket, designed to hold the rod D' F, a cam, working against D, and designed to force the same against O; G, a spindle, to which are attached the cams F and O, the winch K, and discharge-faucet H,-and

The tank being filled and registered, turn the lever back, when the liquid willflow through H. By turning the winch still farther back, both 0 and H 'will be closed.
Having thus described my said invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, the following, to wit:
1. In a registering-faucet or liquid-meter, as herein described, the combination of the tank A with the pipe B, its ball-and-socket valve 0, the bracket E, and rod D, in a manner substantially as and for the purposes herein described andset forth.
2. The combination of the tank A, thefaucet H, the spindle G, the cam F, the "rod D, the bracket E, the ball and socket O, the pipe B, the vent M, the cam O, and the lever K, each with each, in a manner substantially as and for the purpose hereinafter described and set forth.
