W/fnesses:
Patented Sept. '9, 1930 UNITED STATES ATENT OFFICE ROSS C. CAMPBELL, OF SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS FRAME-GLAMP SUPPORT FOR ORNAMENTAL AWNING FIXTURES Application filed September 24, 1926.
'' An object'of my invention is to provide a substantial, neat appearing and economically manufactured supporting clamp for the support of ornamental spear heads and the like on the corners of awning frames at the elbow Where the awning frame arm is bent at right angles for the support of the awning fabric.
A particular object of my invention is to I provide in a device of this character a neat and quickly applied frame clamp support for ornamental awning fixtures which may be merelyclamped or cleated onto the elbow of the bent awning frame in order to provide a detachable mounting for spear heads and other suitable decorative ornamental fixtures for awnings. v
I attain the obj ects of my invention in the device described in the annexed specification, recited in the claim and illustrated in the 25 accompanying drawings, in which like reference numerals indicate like parts in the several figures.
Referring to the figures: Figure 1 is a perspective of my invention 39 shown by itself.
Figure 2 is a side view ofthe device of my invention shown clamped to an awning arm so as to engage an elbow by means of the integral cleats on the device of my invention. This view also shows attached to my ornamental fiXture support a spear head of suitable type showing the manner in which the device of my invention is adapted to support the ornamental spear heads.
Figure 3 is a perspective of a portion of an awning showing how an awning would look 'Wlth ornamental fixtures supported by the device of my invention.
Figure a is an end view of the device of my H invention shown clamped about an awning Serial N 0. 137,501.
Heretofore when ornamental awning fixtures have been mounted on an awnin frame such fixtures as spear heads and the like have been secured to plates or attached by means of T-joints and the like necessitating the use of awning arms composed of several units connected to the T-joint or to the plate and when so constructed provide an opportunity for the joints to work loose and for the awning to sag and cause trouble; but in my frame clamp support for ornamental awning fixtures,-I provide a device which may be used successfully with an awning arm of one piece bent at the corners forming a U-shaped frame member to which the device may be quickly attached by merely clamping the cleats of my device over the elbow or corners of the U-shaped frame member; an operation which requires very little time to do and which is very easy to do and when mounted my device looks neat in appearance and'provides a substantial and practical means of supporting ornamental awning fixtures on an awning frame member.
In detail I provide a mounting member 1-- provided with threads and the like for detachably receiving and supporting spear heads 2 or other suitable ornamental detachable awning fixtures. Integral with mounting member -1 is a body member 3-provided witha quarter circular channel L having a shape adapted to admit of the device being secured to the elbow 5 or' corner of an awning frame member of the type where the frame member is made into a U-shaped member all of one piece.
When. my mounting bracket is secured to elbow -5-it is adapted to be mounted so as to permit cleats -6- and 6"- and -7e and 7 to be quickly'and easily bent to clamp about arms 8 and -9- respectively of the U-shaped awning frame member.
It will be seen by studying the drawings that when cleats "6- and -6- are substantially clamped about arm"8"and cleats 7 and -7- substantially clamped about horizontal arm -9e, both arms being integral, these cleats are thus clamped on integral rightangularly disposed arms; The;
device of my invention engages the elbow recess for receiving and engaging an awning 5 formed by integral arms 8 and 9'. My bracket will thus be securely held into operativeposition for the substantial detachable support of spear head awning fixtures and the like without weakening the.
fixture.
In wltness whereof, I hereunto set my hand this 2nd day of awning frame by having to make T-joints and the like at the corners for the detachable support of ornamental awning fixtures.
It will be seen by those who are skilled in the art of awning manufacture that a U'.
shaped awning frame member is always more solid and substantial when it is made inone piece with the corners bent rather than with the corners connected byljoints of other types I of connections and it will be readily understood by those who are accustomed to mountln'gornamental awning fixtures that a great deal of time may be saved when mounting a support for such ornamental fixtures. if the bracket for their support may be merely V clamped on the corner of the awning frame 'Z,'- which are relatively so disposed as to be able'to hold the bracket of my invention snugly and-securely to the corners of the frameas is shown in the drawings.
, When the device of my invention is in noravoid interferences with the awning fabric f-.10 and in fact, may be used in connection with the so-called California type'of awning .mal use, itis adapted to be so mounted as to on,porches, windows and the like and always look neat and artistic and provide an unusual- .ly, substantlal mount ng for an ornamental awning fixture .whileat the same time, it provides a mounting that is economical to 'manusuitable meansfofcdetachably securing spear lheads andtheliketo the bracket on the I mounting member e15.
I The preferred arrangement, however, .1sf:1llustrated 1n the drawings .and has been hereinabovedescribed.
Having thus described the nature of my 7 invention, what I claim is:
A frame, clamp support for ornamental I awning fixtures, comprising'inintegral combination a metallic quarter circular bracket 7 formed to provide a rounded elbow clamp fora bentawning frame; said bracket of semi-circular cross section and having sides forminga channelfor engagingsaid frame;
said channel sideseXtended adjacent the ends so as to providepliable cleat members for engaging the bracket to the frame, and said bracket-further provided with .an integral protruding body member having a threaded September, A. D. 1926.
