Here is where the decided I advantage accrues, reason ofthe operator being ableoto trim the whole top lift 16 byimachine instead of only, partially, and requiring. additional manual labor before the same becomes a finished product.

Referring to Fig. 5, it will be seen that I mount upon the adjustable slide 82 a knife 85,which is held to said slide 32 by screw 36. This not only gives an adjustment to the knife 35, to trim any, lift, be it 5 or inch thick, but the knife, by reason of its vertical adjustment and its angular adjustment, may be made to operate on any lift presented.

This applies tothe curved as well as the straightbreastheels. Again, by reason of its angular adjustment, it is adapted to give that slight bevel cut tothe outer edge of the lift that is desired to complete the work on the lift; As thetrimmer cutsthe lift andas the operator turns the same around, the shaggy edge. contacts with the knife 35, and'is per.- fectly and completely trimmed.

It will be apparent'with reference to Figs. 3 and 1-, that it is a simple operation to trim the. outer edges of the lift, it beingonly necessary to keepfthe same in contact with the guard and turning the, same around as fast as the trimmer cuts. -The, trimmer under the guard shown in Fig. 3is adapted to trim any size top lift of any shape, whilethe trimmer under the guard shown in Fig. l, which is given the same, reference character only pruned, is adapted to trim the outer edge of any lift, and the straight breast of the heel,

Referring to, the modification shown in Fig. 7 it. \vil-lbe observedthat the guard 24,. is the same as that shownin Figs. 1, 2, 8 and 6, with only the exception that the same is cut away as at 37. This permits the operator to seezat all times the operations being performed on thelift, viz, the trimming and the final operation by the knife 85, with all the other advantages.
