IMPROVEMENT IN HAND-STAMPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 177,405, January 27, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN K. KRrEc of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hand-Stamps, for stamping shoe-lining and for other purposes, whereof the following is a specification p In my said improvements the stem of the stamp is arranged at the end of an arm that is mounted to swing or oscillate horizontally on a standard affixed in a base which has depressions or pockets for containing the ink and the impression pads. Theimpression-pad is made fast to a holder, which is detached from the base. The oscillative arms are jointed and slotted for inversion in changing the type, and maybe raised or lowered on the standard.

2 is a plan view. Fig. 3 shows the detached and revolvable ink-pad.
A is the base. -B is a standard, made fast therein, and carries an adjustable sleeve, (3, on which rests the rear portion of arm or arms D, arranged for swinging or oscillating on'said standard to allow the stamp to be moved a1- ternately from the ink to the impression pad in the usual manner with stamps inkedin this way.
The stem of the stamp is arranged to slide in the outer end of arm D, and said-arm is jointed near the standard B, thus allowing of inverting the stamp. When so inverted the dated May 16, 1876; application filed arm folds over on itself, and a slot therein admits the standard B. The folded position is indicated by dotted lines in .Fig. 1.

The base has suitable depressions or pockets, E F G, the latter of which serves as the receptacle for the dating or other type used in the stamp. F holds an impression-pad of india-rubber or any suitable material. E receives the ink-pad, which is combined with a circular holder, that is detached from the base, and may not only be replenished and renewed easily, but when in use may be rotated occasionally in its place in the base, to equalize the inking of the stamp, and also the wear thereof, caused by the percussion of the stamp.
