For this purpose I add a pair of cylinders to the folder, a carrying cylinder 22 and a cutting cylinder 23 exactly like the cylinders 18 and 19 except that thecylinder 22 is provided with notches 24 for receiving the cutters on the cylinder 19 and it has no folding mechanism. These cylinders 22*and 23 are run at the same ratio with respect to each other, as the cylinders 18 and 19 but at half their actual speed. The nipping rollers 25 also are run at half the speed of the nipping rollers 17 Ordinary gearing for, producing these speeds is employed and this unit is run otherwise in the same way as the usual unit. 9 The web 14 is fed through the nipping rollers 25 and between the cutting and carrying cylinders 23 and22 where it is cut into sheets andcarried around by the cylinder 22by means of pins thereon.
" In Fig. 3 I have shown the web 14 as being advanced between the two cylinders 22 and 23 running at half speed. One sheet 14* is shown here as having been taken half way around the cylinder 19. When the head of that sheet reaches the full speed cylinder 19, the pins on that'cylinder impale the half sheet near the end and take it around with it at an accelerated speed, that is full web speed. The web or webs 15 meet it there and the twoadvancedends proceed together further around the cylinder 19. This web 15 of course has been through the forinerand doubled over. c
The next stage in the operation is shown in Fig. 4:. Here the sheet 14 which formerly came from the cylinder 22, as well as the' sheets coming from the former, are advanced another half revolution on the cylinder 19. Thesheet 14* surrounds that cylinder and the sheets from the former extend half way around it. The web 14 is further advanced around the cylinder 22 by this time.
Fig. 5 shows the advance of the cylinder 19 another half revolution in which it has the sheet 14 exactly surrounding and next toit and a set of sheets from the former also surrounding it outside the sheet 1 B. In other words, they are collected on top of it. At this point, the pins in the cylinder 18 pick off from the cylinder 19 both of the signatures wrapped around the latter as well as the ncoming signature and carry down around it as shown in Fig. 6.

Heretofore efforts to add a supplement of less than the regular number of pages have gen? erally been accompanied bya serious lack of register, the congregation of paper dust, and commonly the necessity of the throwing out 7 the white unprinted sheet which had to be run in and then eliminated in order to retain two pages from a normal four page product.
I also show in Figs. 15 and 16 another arrangement by which a half speed sheet can be accelerated. In this case the cylinders 18, 19 22 and 23are employed and there is not much change in any ofthem except the. cylinder 22. This is provided with sectional pin carriers 30 which are pivoted on the shaft of the cylinder 22 and held in place by springs 31. Thereis a slight change inthe cylinder 191as ithas a lug 32 which engages a pro ec-- tion 33 on the pin 'CiLIllGI' o'nce'during each revolution of the. cylinder 19, .Thisswings forward the pin carrier and with it themcoming sheet 14. This is accomplished during the transfer of the preceding sheet from the cylinder 22m the cylinder 19 which is of course running at full speed. In this way the sheets la are brought up to full speed before they are transferred to the pins on the 1 cylinder 19; The spring 31 brings the pin carrierj30 back against a stop 34.
In this way I can employ the product of a semi-cylindrical 16 page press and secure ion from it with the aid of the supplement press a ten or fourteen page paper and in fact I can vary the product ofthe ordinary press nowon the market practically at will, not being limited to anything except to have an even number of pages, which is practically no limitation at all in this industry.
Although I have illustrated and described only two forms of the invention and shown only two different ways of operating it, I am aware of the fact that other modifications can be made therein by any person skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the invention as expressed in the claims.
Therefore, I do not wish to be limited to all the details of construction herein shown and described, but what I claimis:
1.. The combination with a printing press and its folder, of a supplement press arranged to. deliver four pages on a web one page wide at each revolution, means for .con necting the supplement press to the main press to run at full or half .speed, a former delivering to thefolder, means for directing both products to the folder over the former when running the supplement press atfull speed,=and means for directing the product of the supplementpress to the folder without passing over the former when running at half speed to collect each printed product with a two page supplement therefrom. 1
2. The combination with a folder having a cutting and a collecting cylinder and a folding cylinder, of two similar cylinders adjacent thereto, and means for running the second pair of cylinders at half the speed of the first pair of cylinders, said two pairs of cylinders being arranged to cooperate to insert a supplement into the folder at each alternate revolution of said cutting and collecting cylinder. 3. The. combination with a folder having a cutting and collecting cylinder, of a cylin-.
der adjacent, and in position to deliver to, said cylinder but running at-half the surface speed thereof and arranged to deliver a printed product to said cutting and collecting cylinder at each alternate revolution of said last mentioned cylinder.
4. The combination with a folder having a cutting and collecting cylinder, and a fold ing cylinder, of a cylinder adjacent, and in position to deliver, to, the cutting and collecting cylinder but running at half the surface ning athalf their speed, the larger of the two being in position to deliver sheets to said cutting cylinder. 7
6. The combination with a folding mechanism having a cutting cylinder, of a cutting cylinder and a carrying cylinder "arranged. to
deliver to the cutting cylinder of the folding mechanism, and means for 'runningsaid cutting and carrying cylinders at half the surface speed of the folding mechanism.
7. The combination with a'folding mechanism having a cutting cylinder, of a cutting cylinder and a carrying cylinder arranged to deliver to the cuttin cylinder of the folding mechanism, means for running said cutting and carrying cylinders at half the surface speed of the folding mechanism, and means I for applying a line of paste to the printed product while on the carrying cylinder.

The combination with a main printing press and a supplement printing press hav-' ing its main printing couple shaft coupledto the'end of the printing couple shaft of ing on anarrow web and having itsmainv shaft coupled to the end of'theshaft of the main press, of a folder arranged with its main shaft coupled to the shaft of the main press, so the three machines have their main shafts coupled togetherv in axial alignment,
