The principal object of my invention is to produce circular knit ribbed fabric having an artistic design interknit therewith".

vThe design produced, in laccordance with the principles of my invention, iscapable of practically unlimited variation as to pattern and color.

The machine employed in producing my improved fabric is a circular rib knitting machine of special design and. construction, forming the subject of a separate applica tion for patent Serial No. 181,507, filed April 6, 1927 which is an improvement over my l Aprior nited States Patent No. 1,624,7 92, dated April 12, 1927.

My invention is not limited to any particular class of goods but may be adapted to any article of manufacture which can be directly chine, including hosiery, neck wear, gloves, or any straight tubing which maybe split or cut into shapes of any desired form. In the accompanying drawing:

I have chosen the circular ribbed fabric as a foundation for` reason 'of its elasticity and have selectedthe outside Wales thereof to support the plated design, running the plating threads walewise of the fabric, in

order that this elastic quality of the fabric can be maintained. o

Having clearly illustrated various forms of designs which may be produced on my improved fabric and having clearly described themanner in which they are produced, I'

do not intend that the scope of the invention be limited to the designs `shown as anyone familiar with the art can upon reference to of their own pattern Without departing from the features of my invention. What I claim is: 1. A new article of manufacture comprising tubular knit ribbed fabric having inside and outside Wales and a design formed on the said outside wales and composed of a plurality of dierent independent threads respectively plated on successive immediately adjacent outside Wales.

A new article of manufacture comprising tubular knit ribbed fabric `having inside and outside Wales and a design formed on the -said outside Wales and composed of a plu- .rality of different-independent threads respectively plated on successive immediately adjacent outside wales, said desi havlng yan outline disposed at an angle with respect to said Wales.

A new article of manufacture comprising tubular knit ribbed fabric having inside andloutside Wales and a'design formed on the saidI outside wales and composed of a plurality of different independent threads respectively plated on successive immediately adjacent outside wales, said design having an outline of which a portion is disposed' at an angle'with respect to said Wales,l another portion is disposed parallel to sald Wales, and another portion is disposed perpendicular to said Wales. l

7. vA new article'of manufacture, comprising a tubular knit ribbed fabric formed of a continuous foundation thread Which is composed of a plurality of individual lengths of differently colored threads knotted together end to end in selective succession and knitted into 'a plurality of courses of foundation .stitches therebyforming the said tubular knit ribbed fabric, said fabric havingy inside and outside wales, said fabric also having a design depicted on its outer face, said desi being formed in part by 'a plurality of different independent threads respectively vplated on successive immediately adjacent differently colored threads knotted together end to end in selective succession and knitted into a plurality of courses of' foundation stitches thereby forming the said tubular knit ribbed fabric, said fabric having inside and outside Wales, said fabric also having a design depicted on its outer face said design being formed in part by a plurality of differ- -ent independent threads respectively plated on successive immediately adjacent outside wales, and in part by the differently colored courses of stitches of the foundation fabric, the lsaid plating threads being adapted in l color position to coordinate with the adosition to coordinate with Ano v with respect to said outside wales.
