the wrist so that the handkerchief may be conveniently carried and used or readily carried and gracefully draped over the arm when not in use.
A still further object is to provide a handkerchief with fastening means of the above kind which will also permit fastening of the corner portion of the handkerchief to a neck-- lace, girdle or the like worn by the user, whereby the handkerchief may, if desired, be draped through the necklace or girdle for being gracefully worn and conveniently carried without danger of loss or objectionable wrinkling.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a side view illustrating the manner in which the handkerchief is at tached to the users wrist; and
Figure 2 is a plan view, drawn on a smaller scale, of the handkerchief shown in Figure 1 and embodyiilg the present invention.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the handkerchief includes a fabric sheet or body 5 having attached to one edge portion or corner thereof one end of a short flexible strip or tape 6 having means to detachably connect the other or free end thereof to theattached end of the same. As shown, this connecting means preferably consists of a separable fastener such as used on gloves, one member 7 of which is attached to the free end of the strip or tape 6 andthe other'member 8 of which is secured to the attached end of said strip or tape. It is thus apparent that the edge or corner'portion of the handkerchief to which the tape 6 is attached may be passed around the wrist and the tape 6 then passed and fastened around the portion of the handkerchief body 5 adjacent the wrist, as shown Serial No. 375,545.
in Figure 1. l/Vhen this is done and the ends a of the tape 6 are connected, the handkerchief is securely fastened to the wrist for being conveniently used and carried without danger of loss or objectionable wrinkling. Moreover, the handkerchief, which is ornamental and especially suitable for evening wear, may be gracefully draped over the arm when not in use. It is obvious, however, that by fastening the tape around a necklace, or' girdle worn by the user, the handkerchief may be gracefully draped through the necklace or girdle and conveniently carried and kept in good shape.
The corners or spaced edge portions of the body 5 are preferably provided with ornamental lace trimmings 9 provided with gathered border strips 10. At each of three of the corners of the body 5 a single trimming 9 may be used asa continuation of the body 5 to form such corner, but at the remaining corner the body 5 is extendedsoas to pro.- vide a corner portion. of relatively strong material to which an end of the tape 6 is attached, two trimmings 9 being attached respectively to opposite sides of the last named cornerportion so that uniform and enhanced ornamental appearance is had when the handkerchief is attached to the wrist or necklace.
What I claim is:
1. A handkerchief including a sheet of fabric, and a short tape attached to .one corner portion of said sheet and provided with means to detachably connect the ends thereof, whereby the corner portion of the hand-. kerchief may be passed around the wrist and the tape secured in loop formation around the sheet adjacent the wrist to secure the handkerchief to the wrist. 2. A" handkerchiefincluding a sheet of fabric, and'a short tape attached toone corner portion of said sheet and provided with means to detachably connect the ends thereof, whereby the'corner portion of the handkerchief may be passed around. the wrist and the tape secured inloop formation around the sheet adjacent the wristto secure the handkerchief to the wrist, ornamental trimj mings attached to said sheet, the sheet being itself extended to form one edge portion thereof, said tape being attached to the last named edge portion of the sheet, and orna, mental trimmings attached to opposite sides of said last named corner portion of the sheet.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
FLORENCE E. ROCHESTER.
