Application filed July 27,
This invention relates to reels and more particularly to a reel in which the web, or
ody member, on which the material is to be wound is adapted to holding an ob ect.
In devices of this general nature heretofore known and used, the body member has been adapted to support the flange members and have the material wound about it but, so far as we know, in nonehas the body member been designed to serve these purposes and in addition act as a container.
An object of this invention is to provide a reel in which the body member is a container; a further object is to provide a-ree] of simple construction in which the body member will act as a container for percussion caps and around which the lead-in wires may be wound. Other objects will appear hereinafter.
These objects are accomplished by the following invention of a reel so designed thatthe body member will serve as a container.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, Figure 1 is a sectional view of one embodiment of the invention. Figure 2 is a sectional view taken along the line 2-2 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrows and Figure 3 is a view in perspective. The flange, or end members, 1 are preferably circular in form and are attached to the web, or body member, 2. The body member 2 is preferably formed of a single continuous strip so formed as to provide pockets or containers 3 into which percussion caps or hke objects may be placed. The reel may be constructed of cardboard, wood, sheetmetal, or the like. When'the'reel is used for percussion caps, the cap 4, itself, is slipped into the ocket 3, as shown in Figure 2, and the lead-1n wires 5 wound around the body member 2. The ends of the lead-in wires 5 may be carried through the notch 6 and passed into the o ening 7. If desired, a percussion cap may e placed in each of the containers 3 and both sets of lead-in wires 5 wound around the body member 2, or the body member 2 may be so constructed as to accommodate an even greater number of percussion caps or like objects.
As many apparently widely difierent em- 1928. Serial No. 295,687.
2. As an article of manufacture a reel comprising flange members and a multiplicity of containers formed from a single strip of sheet material interposed in a plane between and parallel with the flange members.
3. As an article of manufacture a reel comprising flange members and a multiplicity of containers interposed in a plane between and parallel with the flange members, said containers being adapted for the reception at either end of the article to be contained therein.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
