UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.

IMPROVEMENT IN DCOR AND WINDOW FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 177,102, dated May 9, 1876; application filed February 14, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J oHN HENRY DANIELS, of N eW York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Door and Window Fastener, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists of a wedgeshaped fastener for fastening the door shut or open by wedging between the lower end and the floor, which is composed of a wedge between a bottom and top plate, the latter being jointed to the former near the apex of the angle, so that by removing the wedge from between the plates the top one will drop and free the door to let it close or open, and thebottom plate has a stud for pressing into the floor to prevent it from sliding.
Figure l is a perspective View of a partlyopen door with my improved fastener under it. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the fastener. Fig. 3 is a top view.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the bottom, and B the top plate, of the fastener; G, the joint; D, the stud in the bottorn plate for pressing into the floor, and E by pressing the stud into the upper sash the distance from the lower one it is desired to hold it; then, by putting in the wedge and raising the sash up, it will be fastened.
I am aware that door-fastenings have been made of two half-wedges hinged together at their small ends; but
What I claim is- The comhination,'with a detachable onepiece wedge, of the plates A B, jointed at O, and held by stud D, as and for the purpose specified.
' JOHN HENRY DANIELS.
