This invention relates to improvements in valves for oil distributing systems, and has for its primary-object the provision of a valve ,unit embodying certain improvements over the valve-shown and described in our co-pending application, Serial No. 313,802, filed October 20, 1928.
The improved features of the present valve over the structure embodied in our co-pend- 1e ing application, are namely the valve float operatingmechanism, the protecting cover, the wrench means for removing the valve seat, as well as other novel modifications.
Other important objects and advantages of the invention reside in the provision of means for positively operating the valve, to protect the valve during inclement weather and facilitating its disassembly for the purpose of repair or replacement. These and other objects of the invention will become more apparent to the reader after considering the invention as described and claimed hereinafter.

The bonnet which has been generally re ferred to by 13, consists of a polygonal shaped head 18, provided with a depending and externally threadedapron 14; Asshoulder 2 0 is provided between the apron 19 and the head 18 for abutment against the upper end of the cylinder 7. Thebonnet is provided with a hub. structure 21, through which the valve 1 improved part of the stem is slidablydisposed andtheipaclry ing gland 23 carried by the bonnet pro vided for the stem 15. A compressible spring 23- is interposed between the bonnet 13 and the uppermost valve element 10, for urgingthe valve stem downwardly when the latter is released by the actuation of the slide plate 24;. The slide plate 24 is of elongated extent as shown inFigure 2, and is provided with an ovate opening An inclined construction 26 on the top surface of the plate has its lower end merging with the edge or" the opening 25, and upon this inclined surface, the lower end of the stem 15 is adapted to normally res The plate 24- is supported upon the rollers 27-27 and is slidable through an opening 28 in the side of the cylinder 27 A pair of flanges 2929 extend'laterally at one side of the cylinder 7 and between these. flanges are rotatably mounted the gear 30 and the pinion 31. The pinion 31 is carried by the pin 32, while the gear 30 is mounted on the shaft'33. V 7 An arm 34 projects from the pinion 32 an is equipped with an adjustable float 35 at its free end. The portion of the slide plate 24 protruding beyond the side of the cylinder 7 is provided with a plurality of longitudinally spaced openings 36 for receiving the teeth of the gear 30. Thus, when the oil in the tank rises, the stem will be released, thus clos ing the valve 16 and opening the valve 10. A dome-shaped cover 37 is rovided, at its edge portion with bayonet slots 38 for engagement with the pins 39 on the upper end portion or the cylinder 7. The cover is also provided with a handle 89, whereby it may be actuated in attaching or detaching the same from the valve structure.
A wrench, such as is generally referred to by 40 consists of a handle 41, with a tubular shank 12 extending therefrom. The shank is provided with a head at its free end and a pair of projections "l;el l l depending therefrom. 'lhe shoulder is adapted to be inserted within the cylinder after the bonnet 13 has been removed and is engageable in the recesses of the valve seat, so that the latter may be easily removed. The shank portion 420i the rim is to receive the valve stem while in the act of removing the valve seat.
It will thus be seen that the present invention embodies numerous improvements over our copending application and over the art, and it is to be. understood that various changes in the shape, size, and materials may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.

1. In a valve structure including a body, an inlet and an outlet, a slidable valve stem within the body, valve seats, valve heads on the stem for engagement on said seats, a slide plate upon which the stem is normally adapted to rest for maintaining one out the valve heads seated, said plate being formed with an opening through which the stem may gravitate to unseat the last mentioned valve head and to seat the other valve head, a float, and gear means between said float and said plate whereby said plate may be slid to permit the gravitation of said valve stem at a predetermined liquid level.
2. In a valve structure including a body, an inlet and an outlet, a slidable valve stem within the body, valve seats, valve heads on the stem for engagement on said seats, a slide plate upon which the stem is normally adapted to rest for maintaining one of the valve heads seated, said plate being formed with an opening through which the stem may gravitate to unseat the last mentioned valve head and to seat the other valve head, a float, and gear means between said float and said plate whereby said plate may be slid to permit the gravitation of said valve stem at a predetermined liquid level, said gear means consisting of a pair of flanges projecting from the side of the valve body, an arm extending from the float, a pinion on the arm, a gear for mesh with the pinion, and openings at one end of the slide plate with which the gear is adapted to mesh.
3. In a valve structure including a body, an inlet and an outlet, a slidable valve stem within the body, valve seats, valve heads on the stem for engagement on said seats, a slide plate upon which the stem is normally adapted to rest for maintaining one of the valve heads seated, said plate being formed with an opening through which the stem may gravitate to unseat the last mentioned valve head and to seat the other valve head, a float, and gear means between said float and said plate whereby said plate may he slid to permit the gravitation of said valve stem at a predetermined liquid level, and a cover for the upper end of the valve structure.
