IMPROVEMENT lN GARBAGE-BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 177,091, dated May 9, 1876 application filed April 10, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, BENJAMIN BURLING, of Whitehall, county of Washington and State of New York, have invented an Improved Garbage-Box, of which the following is a specification Figure l is a perspective view of my improved garbage-box, the lower drawer being shown partly open. Fig. 2 is avertical section of the same.
The object of this inveption is to furnish an improved garbage-box, which shall be simple in construction, convenient in use, fire-proof, and so constructed that its contents may be readily disinfected.
The invention consists in an improved garbage-box, formed of the case or shell, provided with two drawers, and with a dome inclosing a perforated part of its top, having a hole in its top, closed with a screw-cap or plug, and covered with a detachable cap, as hereinafter fully described.

A represents the case or shell of the box, which is made of cast or sheet iron, and is provided with short legs B, to raise its bottom from the ,floor'or ground. The case A may be of any convenient size, and'is provided with two drawers, 0, placed one above the other. The lower drawer G is designed to receive ashes, and slides upon the bottom of the case A, or upon cleats or strips attached to said bottom. The upper drawer G is designed .to receive garbage, and slides upon cleats ora frame, E, attached to the case A. The inner ends of the drawers 0 are made inclined, for convenience in removing their contents. The middle part of the top of the case A is perforated with. numerous small holes, and has a low dome, E, attached to it, inelosing the said holes. The dome E is designed to receive a disinfectant to destroy the disagreeable and unhealthy gases that may be generated by the garbage. The disinfectant is put in through a hole in the top of the dome E, which hole is closed with a screw-cap or plug, F. The dome E F is covered with a cap, G, to more thoroughly confine the disinfectant and prevent it from escaping into the air.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- An improved garbage-box, formed of the case or shell A, provided with two drawers, 0, and with a dome, E, inclosing a perforated part of its top, having a hole in its top closed with a screw-cap or plug, F, and covered with a detachable cap, Gr, substantially as herein shown and described.
