A metal reinforcing strip 3 is disposed where the flap folds, that is on the inner surface thereof. This type of school bag or brief case is very inexpensive, and it is the aim of this invention to distinguish this type of, bag from those others which are constructed of genuine leather from the hide.

The ends of the reinforcingstrip are provided with elongated slots 5, and passing through the slots are rivets 6. Positioned between'the ends of the reinforcing strip and flap incident to the fold thereof are anti-wear pieces 7, which may be made of any suitable material preferably genuine leather. These wear pieces are wide enough and longenough to project beyond the edges of the reinforcing strip, hence insuring prevention of wearing or cutting'through the flap. I r

The slots are ,of a width to properly re-, ceive the shanks of the rivets, and duetothe shanks of the rivets being located at the opposite ends of the slots the anti-wear pieces are 7 V prevented from misplacement or turning. The slot-s further serve the purpose of exposing a notice or legend or any other matter that might be applied to the anti-wear piece.

In Figures 4 and 5 the anti-wear pieces are shorter and are also wide enough to project beyond the side and end edges of the reinforcing strip, to insure against wearing or cutting through the flap. 7

However as shown in Figuresfiand 5 the shanksS of the rivets are rectangular in cross section, where they pass through the reinforcing strip and through the wear piece, so as to prevent the wear piece from turning. This type of wear piece may be used in very inexpensive school bags and the like. However if necessary the short wear pieces may be long enough to apply a notice or-leg'end thereon, and in such a case the reinforcing strip may have a short slot through which this notice or legend may appear, so asto correspond with what is shown in Figures 1, 2 and 3. I

The invention having been set forth, whatis claimed is:

I
