whereby the two may movein unison.
Any suitable means ,may be employed. for moving the crosshead 22 along the top of the casting and with respect to the supporting table 10. As shown, thescrewV 34, is provided end of which'eXtends through a sleeve 35 provided in the frictionless bearing 7, and beyond lthe end member 5. The sleevel 35" extends a t small distance beyond the bearing 7 andhas mou-ntedthereon a 'toothed'wheel 36', or'the or the like, provided on the shaft' of a motor (not shown). Rotation of the wheel 36 in the'proper direction will cause a movement of the cross-head 22vin thedesired direction.-
Any suitable trimming mechanism may be employed and the same'v may bearranged to trim one or all sides of the'pile of sheets or cards as desired.` Inthe construction shown in the drawings the trimming mechanism consists of aplurality of knives, preferably four in number, each arranged along one side of the opening 6, provided in the end portio`n'4,- of thecasting, to form an inclosed space, the space shown in the drawings being of substantial rectangular cross section.l As shown,
Va knife 40 is provided to trim the'upper edge of the pile, a knife 41 isV providedto trim the lower edge'of the pile, and the vertical knivesr 42 and 43 yare provided to trim the twoside edges of the pile. `The knife- 40 is mounted inA av knifeblock 44, in'any suitable Arnanner,
the lsaid knife block'44 being arrangedV .for vertical adjustment inthe opening 6. The adjusting'means may comprise apair of verv tically ,positioned i screws y45, extending through the top side of the opening6,-and each threadedthroughthe knife block near the ends thereof, each of said screws having ahand wheel 46 at oneendthereof f orrotatingthe said screws. Collars 47 are provided on each ofsaidscrew members for preventing any vertical movement of saidscrews. It

will be obvious that uponv operation of the hand wheels 46 the screws will be rotated to move the knife block 44` with its knife 40 in the desired direction and to any desired lad-V rlhe knives 42 and 43rare: mounted in knife j blocks 48 and 49 respectively, said blocksbeing adapted for movement towards and away from the center of the opening 6. -The means f for causing the adjustment of each ofj said knife blocks will now beexplained. Since the means employed for each knife blockis eX actly similar, only one willbe described in detail.V V"As shown, thel knifeblock 48 is provided nearV each end with a projection or ridge 50, adapted to be received and ride in a groove or runway 51, provided therefor in the upper and lower sides bordering the opening 6, in the end portion 4, of the casting, the said blocks being held in the grooves or runways 51 bythe plates` 52 which arev secured in anysuitable'manner, as Vby screws 53,91` the like, lto the end member 4, as shown in Fig. 3, of the drawings.` It will thus be noted its bearing.' The upper screw 54 is providedVV at the outer-end thereof with a hand wheelr 55, o r the like for rotating the same. In order that t-he upper and lower screwsmay be Aoperated in unison, a chain and sprocket `56,` is-'rigidly mounted on each screw, and an endless cha-in 57 is passed over these sprockets,
'whereby rotation' of the `upper screw will be transmitted to thelower screw. It will thus be noted that in order. to adjust the position of the knife block 48, the hand wheel need only be rotated in vproper direction. a similar manner theV knife block ,49 `may be moved to any desired adjustedposition.
