Description
July 1, 1930. Wj QAMNSQN GARDEN BENCH Filed May l()t 1929 Patented July 1, 1930 UETE man;
WILLIAM HANKINSON, OF AIKEN, SOUTH CAROLINAl GARDEN BENCH s c Yapplication filed May 1u, 192s. serial No. 362,067.
vention resides in the provision of a` garden la bench or the like constructed with legs andv a single wheel which functions as 'a `leg when the bench is normally disposed for seating purposes and is so arranged beyond one end of the bench and to one side so that vthe bench may be tilted a slight bit for moving the bench. onthe wheel without causing any of the legs to scrape along the ground.
A still further very important object of the invention resides in the provision of a 2u bench of this nature which is exceedingly simple in its construction, inexpensive to ,manufactura strong and durable, thoroughly efficient and reliable in use, and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it isy 25 designed. n y
Y kWith the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and inthe combina- S- tion and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing: ,Y A Figure l is a front elevation of the bench embodying the features of my invention, and Figure 2 is a top plan View thereof. Referring to the drawings in detailit Will be vseen that numerals 5 denote a pair of spaced parallel coextensive bars which are formed at one end into handles 6 and at the other ends are formed with depending bearing blocks or plates 7 in which are journaled the ends of an axle shaft 8 with a wheel 9 fixed thereto olf center toward the front.
A leg bar 10 is fixed to the front bar 5 in- A* i5 termediate its ends so as'to kdepend downwardly from the bar 5 and also rise upwardly therefrom. This leg bar 10 is located adjacent the handle 6v of said front bar 5. Bars 11 rise from the bar 5 adjacent the bearing .blocks 7 fixed thereto.l
`withouta more detailed description thereof.
A leg l0 is fixed to the rear bar 5 adjacent the handle thereof and is constructed the same as the leg bar 10. Arm rests l2 are mounted on the upper ends of the leg bars l0, 10 and bars 11 and a back la is fixed 5;. across the rear end of these arms. i
A. seat l5 is mounted betvveenthe bars 5 in any suitable manner. The important feature of this mobile bench is the location of l the Wheel 9 which is disposed at one' end of en the bench structurel and offset toward the front thereof at the corner Without a leg so that it is only necessary to lift up on the handle 6 and slightly tilt the bench for- Wardly so thatitmay be readily moved from e5 place to place Without the nuisance of any legs scraping along the ground or engaging any upwardly'prot'ruding obstacles on the ground, and rfurthermore a saving of `material is the result of using the wheel 9 as 7eone` of the legs. Y 'l Itis thought that the construction, utility and advantages of this invention will nowv be quite apparent to those skilled inthis art Y The present embodiment of the vinvention i hasbeen described in detail merely for the purposes of exemplilication sinceuin actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of so the' invention and the above description.
lt will be apparent that changes inthe details of construction, in the combination and arrangements of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope S5 of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is: j In abench structure of the class described, a pair of spaced parallel coextensive bars Y* formed at one end withV handles and having at their other ends depending bearing blocks, an axle journaled in said blocks, a Wheel `0n saidaxle offset toward the front of the bench, 95 legs on said bars adjacent the handles thereof, a seat between said bars, posts secured to the bars adjacent the opposite ends thereof and extending upwardly therefrom, the rearmost of said bars havingdepending integral .wel
