EMANUEL SCHNELLBACHER, OF OMAHA, NEBRASKA.
BARREL-TRUCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 665,583, dated January 8, 1901.
Application filed June 5, 1899 Serial No. 719,433. iNo model.)
To all whom, it TIT/fry concern.-
Be it known that I, EMANUEL SCHNELL- BACHER, residing at Omaha, in the county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have invented certain useful Improvements in Barrel- Trucks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
This'inveution relates to a novel improvement in barrel-trucks.
The object of my invention is to provide a truck by means of which barrels may be raised a sufficient height, so that one barrel may be raised the height of another barrel to enable the operator to place the barrels in double tiers.
In the accompanying drawings I have shown in Figure 1 a side elevation of my improved barrel-truck. Fig. 2 shows a top view thereof,
while Fig. 3 shows an end view.
My invention embodies, essentially, a truckframe comprising the side pieces A, to which are secured near one end the wheels 0, while cent-rally at the remaining end is secured the caster K. This frame A is rounded at one end, as is shown at h, so that the truck can be brought to a vertical position in loading the barrels. These sides A A are connected by means of the braces F and Z and the axle E, supporting the wheels 0. Centrally is positioned the support J, which is also held and secured by means of the supports Z and the solid end D, as is shown in Fig. 2. This central portion J has a hook g, (shown more clearly in Fig. 1,) while at a suitable point at the remaining end is a barI, which slides within the keeper G, which keeper is secured to a handle H, there being two such keepers and handles, these handles being secured by means of the bolts i to the side panels A. a, b, c, and d represent suitable brace-bars used in strengthening the truck.
When my truck is to be used to load the barrel 13, (shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1,) the barrel would be placed on end so that the line identified by the letter B would be in a horizontal plane, when the truck would be tilted over on its end, rocking on the curved edges of the side A, when the barrel would be tilted away from the truck sufficiently to allow the hook g to rest below the same. The barrel would then be released, when the hook e, secured to the bar I, would be permitted to hook into the upper end of the barrel, when the truck would be gradually rocked downward until it rode upon the wheels 0 and the easter K.
The sides A are made of a width corresponding to the diameter of an ordinary barrel, so that when the barrel is upon the truck, as is shown in Fig. 1, it can simply be rolled lat erally 06 of the truck and be then of a height approximately that of a barrel, so that the barrel'upon the truck can readily be rolled upon a tier of barrels already positioned.
Now, having thus described my said inven tion, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent, is
In a barrel-truck of the character described, an axle provided with two wheels, two upwardly-extending sides having one of the ends curved to form a rounded rocker, said sides being united by suitable braces, a pivoted caster forming the third supportingwheel for said sides, two operating-handles extending from said sides, a hook secured near the rounded ends of said sides, two loop-brackets secured to said handles, and a hook-provided sliding bar working Within saidloops.
Signed in the presence of two witnesses.
EMANUEL SGHNELLBAOHER.
