Be it known that 1, CHARLES WILLIAM GOODYEAR, a subject of the Kingdom of Great- Churchfield Mills, Dudley, in the county of Worcester, England, manufacturer, have invented certain Improvements in or Relating to Means for Con- Britain, residing at veying or Transporting Goods, of which the following is a specification. p

This invention comprises certain improvements in or relating to means for conveying goods, and refers particu larly to means of a character adapted to provide for thetransport by manual labor of a relatively small quantity of goods over a relatively short distance from one position to another. In an instance in which metal or transporting articles of a relatively small character are being produced at a lathe, and it desired to transfer these to another position, the

i The present invention provides a receptacle in which the goods can be placed, and which receptacle is of a character such that it can be conveyed by. a barrow, trolley, truck, or the like in a particularly convenient manner without necessitating the lifting of the said receptacle on to or pif the barrow. To this end the receptacle is of a character such that the barrow can be wheeled in relation to it and manipulated to raise the receptacle ed the ground. The receptacle can then be conveyed by the barrow, after which the barrow can be manipulated to replace the receptacle upon the ground without the necessity for any independent raising of. the receptacle into position upon the barrow. 1

g The invention is advantageously carried out by providing the bottom of the receptacle with a projection or projections con- 'veniently of V-section, and in providing a barrow of the type having two Wheels-with V-shaped receiving portions at-its fore part.- The barrow can thus be Wheeled toward a receptacle, condition until the V-portions of the barrow are approximately underneath the V-portion of the receptacle, after-which by depressing the handles of the. barrow, the V- portions of the barrow receive a V-porti'on of the receptacle. Further depression of the handles of the barrow result in the elevathe arms raised into an elevated tion of the receptacle from the ground so that it can be readily wheeled, while being installed effectively and safely upon the barrow. The V-shaped portions upon the barrow are soarranged that when the barrowassumes its normal position, the receptacle is vertical and appropriately balanced in relation to the wheels.

The receptacle may comprise a wooden frame and a detachable metal casing which may have handles so that the casing containing the contents may be readily lifted out.

In order that this invention may be clearly understood and readily carried into practice, reference may be had to the appended explanatory two sheets of drawings, upon which I Figure l illustrates in sectional elevation a barrow and receptacle according to the present invention, showing the same in the 'to constitute handles at their rear extremiand suitably mounted upon two wheels ties, b at or near their fore extremities. Said V- shaped portion may be solid and composed of woodwork, and it may\ be incasedor covered with sheet metal. portion d is of shape or, configuration adapted to conform with the internal shape or configuration of the V-shaped'receiving portions upon the barrow so that'when the V-shaped part of the receptacle is carried by the V-shaped portions of the barrow, said receptacle is effectively installed from lateral derangement. i is the receptacle proper I which is adapted to be detachably received by the frame 9 and it is furnished with handles The arrangement is such that when the barrow is being advanced toward thereceptacle with the arms thereof in their elevated condition, the V-shaped receiving portions of the barrow cannot be advanced too far beyond the V-shaped lower portion of the receptacle, this being prevented by contact of the upper surfaces of the beams of the barrow with the side of the receptacle. After the barrow has been advanced thus far the depression of the handles results in the elevation of the V-shaped receiving por- The V-shaped Y tions in such a direction that they receive the V-shaped lower portion of the receptacle and afterward elevate the latter into the position for transport.

What I claim as my invention and desire to secureby Letters Patent is 1. Means for conveying goods including in combination a barrow provided with a recessed portion adjacentits lower edge and a receptacle formed with a rib along its lower surface, such rib being adapted to seat in the recess whereby to preventany movement of the receptacle with respect to the barrow.

2. Means for conveyiiig goods including -in combination a barrow provided with a pair of side beams,:and members extending upwardly from the ends of such beams, inverted V-shaped members positioned adjacent the ends of such beams and above the members whereby to form a recessed portion between the innermost portion of such me1nbers and the outermost portions of the V- shaped members, and areceptacle provided with a V-shaped rib along its lower face, such 1 rib being adapted to seat within the recess aforementioned whereby to retain the r receptacle in applied position upon the barrow.
