- IMPROVEMENT IN NUT-LOCKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 176,948, dated MayEQ, 1876; application filed April 1, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMEs E, FRED, of Senecaville, in the county of Guernsey and State of Ohio, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Nut-Locks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings isa representation of a plan view of my nut-lock, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional View of the passed, and provided with nuts-a. a. The
beam A is recessed toreceive a plate, 0, on one end of which a spring-finger, b,1s pivoted, for a purpose which will be hereinafter explained. The opposite end of the plate 0 is bent, as shown in Fig. 2, and slotted to receive a tongue, 0, which is formed on a locking plate, D. The plate D is constructed with slot-s g g, and also with a prong, I), which latter is recessed to receive the free end of the spring-finger b when the plate D is adjusted in the position shown in the drawing. The
tongue 0 and the spring-finger b holdthe plate D fast in its place, and this plate, when so held, prevents the nuts from turning.
' My invention is applicable to railroad-rails, and to other objects.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure 'by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the plate G, slotted and provided with a pivoted s 'n-ing-tinger, b, and plate D, which is slotted and constructed with atongue, c, substantially as'described.
In testimony that I claim the aboveI have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of twowitnesses.
JAMES EDWARD FRED.
