desigrlatesey two. i parallel y either end of the housing 10. By this arrangement, the resilient rollers act as bumpers and eliminate undesirable metallic noise. These resilient rollers also serve a similar function when the complete device is lifted by the member 18by noiselessly engaging the bar member 17. The numeral 22 designates a handle member secured by suitable means to the roller carrying vmember 18.
'Io operate the device it is merely necessary to lift the same by the handle member 22 and place the housing 10 over the character strokes to be blotted and move the handle member 22 backwardly and forwardly relative to the housing 10, thereby causing the resilient rollers 21 to roll upon the top surface of the absorbent material 13 and depress the same upon the wet ink to be blotted. The complete operation is noiseless and requires only one hand.
There is no possibility or running or blurring the ink on the paper as the blotter is applied flatly to the same and the greater the downward pressure exerted on the handle member 22, the more securely will the blotter be held against any creeping movement.
When the absorbent material 13 becomes too worn or soiled for further successful use, it may be easily removed ina momentstime and a new blotter inserted.
Some changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of my improved blotting device without departing from the real spirit and purpose of my invention and it is my intention to cover by my claims any modified forms of structure or use of mechanical equivalents which may be reasonably included within their scope.
I claim: 1
1. In a device of the class described, a housing open at its bottom, a flange formed on the lower marginal edge of said housing, absorbent material supported by said flange, and a means for exerting pressure on the top surface of said absorbent material.
2. In a device of the class described, a housing open at its bottom, flanges formed on the lower marginal edge of said housing, absorbent material supported by said flanges, and a means for exerting pressure on the upper surface of said absorbent material. Y
3.j In a device of the class described, a housing open at its bottom, inwardly extending iianges formed on the lower portion of saidVY housing, blotting material resting on said flanges, a cutaway portion in said housing to facilitate the removal or replacement of said blotting material, and a means for exerting pressure on the top surface of said blotting material. Y
4. In a blotting device, a housing open at its bottom, a means for holding a sheet of bloting paper in the bottom of said housing, non-metallic members secured to said housing-for holding said'housing a slight dis- 'ing surface upon which it may be resting and a means for exerting pressure on the upper surface ofsaid blotting paper.
6. In a blotting device, a one-piece housing member open at its bottom, inwardly extending flanges formed on the lower marginal edge of said housing, a sheet of absorbent material resting on said flanges and inclosing said bottom, said housing having a slot, a member extending through said slot, and a wheel member rotatably mounted on said last mentioned member, in said housing and capable of engaging the upper surface of said absorbent material.

In a blotting device, a housing member open at its bottom, an inwardly extending `liange formed on the two opposite lower portions of said housing, blotting paper capable of being inserted into said housing and onto said two flanges, and a means for exerting pressure on the top surface of said bloting paper. e

In a device of the class described, a housing open at its bottom, a sheet of absorbent material inclosing said bottom, said housing having a slot, a handle member extending throughsaid slot. a resilient member secured to said handle member, in said housing and capable of engaging and depressing said absorbent material, and resilient members on said housing forholding the same a'slight distance from the supporting surface upon which it may be resting.

In a blotting device, a housing open at its bottom, two inwardly extending flanges formed on the lower marginal edge of said housing and extending toward each other, a sheet of blotting paper inclosing said bottom, resting on said flanges and capable of being manually slid from said resting position on said flanges from said housing, said Y housing having twoparallel slots, a bearing member embracing the portion of the housing between two said slots and extending into said housing, two roller members inside said housing and journaled in and between the two portions of the bearing member that extend into the said housing, and a resilient tube embracing each of said rollers; said rollers being so positioned on said bearing member that When the bearing member is reciprocated in said slots the resilient tubes will be capable of engaging the two ends of the housing, respectively.
11. In a blotting device, a housing open at its bottom, a sheet of absorbent material inclosing said bottom, said housing having a slot, a handle member extending through said slot, a shaft rotatably mounted on said handle member and in said housing, a resilient tube embracing said shaft and so arranged and of such character that when said handle member is depressed it will engage the upper surface of said absorbent material and When said handle is lifted Will engage the said housing and support the same, and resilient feet members secured to said housmay be resting. f
