ATTORNEY3.
Patented July 1, 1930 warren stares meant PATENT artist 1 PAUL n. SIMMONS, or MARION, INDIANA, AssIe-non T0 INDIANA rrnnnrnonucrs COMPANY, or MARION, INDIANA DISH HOLDER Application filed August 2, 1929. Serial No. 383,051.
vide a permanent'holder for a dish of the aforesaid character which holder may be 0 readily handled and cleaned and which, will yieldingly retain a dish when inserted and yet permit ready and forcible detachment of the dish from the holder.
Dishes of the aforesaid character'usually include a substantially fiat base portion and a corrugated frusto-conical side and such a dish is illustrated in the prior Patent 1,356,409, dated October 19, 1920. The pres ent invention contemplates the formation of the holder in an improved manner.
The full nature of the invention will be understood from the accompanying drawings and the following description and claims Fig. 1 is a top plan view of the holder embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a central sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1 and in the direction of the arrows. Fig. 3
is an enlarged transverse sectional view of one of the retaining fingers taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2 and in the direction of the arrows. Fig. 4c is a similar view of a modified form of finger shown in Fig. 3.
In the drawings 10 indicates a base portion and 11 a neck portion of aholder. The
Extending upwardly in spaced relation with each other and about the periphery of p the plate portion 12 and extending outwardly as well are a plurality of fingers 15, each of which is herein shown provided with a groove 16 and the outwardly extending torque portions 17 which are turned back as at 18 to form a protected edge for each finger also serve to reinforce the fingers. As shown in Fig. 3 the fingers gradually taper downwardshown positioned diametrically; opposite it will not jump from theholder. number of tips may .be any number but at least, two should be provided.
Instead of .having'each of the fingers formed of the material. from which the bot- -ly so that the groove 16 is gradually reduced as it approaches theplate 12. Preferably the several fingersare formed-inte ral with the plate portion 12 and are formed from a flat sheet therewith. V v I In order to prevent escapement of the corrugated dish which is nestingly received by the fingers which are more or less spring like flIl character, a plurality of inwardly directed tips-19 are provided and herein the same are each other. Preferably these tips are not provided uponv each finger. .Each tip thus provided includes the dish-retaining projec-' tion so that when pressure is applied to the contents of the dish for the removal thereof, such as the nsertion of aspoon in ice cream,
The
While herein the fingers each are shown as comprise of a single inwardly-directed groove flankedv .by' an inwardly-positioned tongue, the reverse arrangement may be employed with equal facility and the terminology fluted employed in the claims is. intended to include both forms.
The inventionclaimed is:
1. A holder for truncated dishes and the like comprising a supporting base, a neck ex tending upwardly therefrom, a top carried by said base and extending outwardly from theneck and adapted to be engaged by the bottom of a dish,and a plurality'of outwardly and upwardly inclined individual dish-nest-' ing fingers carried by said top and secured thereto at the bottom of the fingers and arranged for nesting reception of the dish and having substantially full linear contact with the side thereof from said top to the top of said finger. I
2. A holder for truncated dishes and the like comprising a supporting base, a neck extending upwardly therefrom, a top carried by said base and extending outwardly from the neck, and a plurality of outwardly and upwardly directed individual dish-nesting fingers carried by said top and secured thereto at the bottom of the fingers, each finger having a fluted interior for nestin'gly receiving a corrugated element of the dish whereby rotation of the dish is prevented.
3. A holder for truncated dishes and the like comprising asupporting base, a neck extending upwardly therefrom, a top carried by said base and extending outwardly from the neck, a plurality of outwardly and upwardly directed individual dish-nesting fingers carried by said top and secured thereto at the bottom of the fingers, each finger having a fluted interior for nestingly receiving a corrugated element of the dish whereby rotation of the dish is prevented, and a plurality of inwardly directed dish retaining tip projections carried by the outer ends of a plurality of said fingers. r
4'. A holder for truncated dishes and the like comprising a supporting base, a neck extending upwardly therefrom, a top carried by said base and extending outwardly from the neck, a plurality of outwardly and upwarly directed individual dish-nesting fingers carried by said top and secured thereto at the bottom of the fingers, each finger having a fluted interior for nestingly receiving a corrugated'element of the dish whereby rotation of the dish is prevented, a plurality of' inwardly directed dish retaining tip projections carried by the outer ends of a plurality of said fingers, and a plurality of said fingers being free from said tip projections and the tipped fingers being positioned intermediate a pair of adjacent tipless fingers,
all of said fingers being arranged in spaced relation about the periphery of the top.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto affixed my signature;
PAUL R. SIMMONS.
