Description

R. J. WARNER JEWELRY BOX Filed .June 24 July 1, 1930 i a s f.
Patented July 1, 193()` UNITED STATES RUDOLPH J. WARNER, oF RUFFALQNRW YORK, yAssIGrNoR TorwARNRR JEWELRY" CASE COMPANY, on BUFFALO, NEW'YORK, A coRPoRATIoN or NEW YORK Y y JEWELRY BOX Application led June 24,
This invention relates generally to jewelry boxes, but more particularly to a box for displaying a ladys ribbon-watch.
One of its objects is the production of a neat and attractive box of this kind having a multi-color pad which may be made of sections of various shapes or designs.
Another object of the invention is to simplify the construction of the pad with a view of reducing theproduction cost of the box.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of a jewelry box embodying the invention. Figure 2 is a sectional end view, showing the movable pad-section in a standing position. Figure 3 is a perspective view of the removable padsection. Figure 4 is a central cross section of the box-body on anenlarged scale.
Similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
10 indicates the body of the box and 11 its cover, which parts may be provided with a covering of velvet or other suitable material.
Arranged in the box-body is a pad, which, in its preferred form, comprises a number of panels or sections 12, 13, 14 of contrasting shades orV colors closely fitted together at their adjoining edges and of j the proper shape and dimensions to completely iill the box, as shown. Each panel may consist of a strip or core 15 of cardboard or other stiff material having a decorative covering 16 of velvet or other appropriate` material. One of the panels, say the rear one 12, may be permanently secured in the box, while the other two may be removably arranged in the box and secured to a packing or bottom board 17 having a folding brace 18, so that this double panel-section may be placed in an inclined position in the box, like an easel, to better display a ladys wrist watchy or` piece of jewelry mounted upon it, as shown. inFig. 2. If it is desired to display the watch in a horizontal position, the brace is folded and the removable panel is1 llaid in the box flush with the fixed panel, as shown in Fig. 1. The bottom board is preferably co-extensive with the middle and front panels. The removable double panel sec- 1'92'7. serial No. 201,107.l

with a suitable tab to facilitate its removal fromv the boxes.
' To render the display attractive, the cen tral panel 13 of the pad may,for instance, be black land the front and rear panelsl12 and 14 green, or vice versa. Various othery color-combinations or. 'shades may 'be adopted according to the Afancy of the manufacturer or the customer. j
' The panels may alsov have a variety of outlines; for example, in the box shown iii-Figs: 1 and v.2, the central panel tapers from itsy middle toward its ends and thek side panels 4 one fixed and ,theother twoy removable, the
panels are preferably covered as best shown in Fig. 4. As there illustrated, the coverings of the central and front` panels are folded over the opposing edges of their. cores 15, while the other edges of these coverings are folded Vdownfov'er the opposite edges of the panel-cores 15 and around the correspond ing front and rear edges of the bottom board 17, as well as theends of these members, the loweredges of the coverings beingy glued or otherwise secured to they underside of the board 17 .j A. finishing strip or ,sheet 20, which carries the ybrace 18, is applied to the back of this double panel, `r i Amaterial saving of time. is yeffected by this manner of covering the pad-panels and the bottom-board.
The core of the rear panel, which has no bottom board, is made thick enough to bring,
the surface of said'panel flush with that of the other panels.
By employing the fixed pad-section 12 in association with the movable or easel- section 13, 14, the configuration of the latter may be varied to produce avariety of pleasing designs, the fixed section following the outline of the easel-section and being complemental thereto so that the two sections comyco ce A
