rllfhis invention relates to improvements in shaving brushes and more particularly to a fountain shaving brush that will be adapted to receive a tube or container of shaving cream which may be removed when the contents thereof have been used and a new tube substituted therefor.

An object of the invention is to provide a' fountain shaving brush which will be adapted to receive and housean improved form of collapsible tube of shaving cream, and which will be so constructed that the shaving cream may be forced through a removable brush head directly into the bristles of the brush.

The invention will be best understood from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:

The body member 1 (Figs. 6 and 7) of the brush handle is preferably tubular in form, and is internally screw-threaded at its forward end as at 2. The remaining portion of the inner wall of the body 1 is provided with coarse internal screw threads 3, the purpose of which will later be described.

The brush head comprises a mass of bristles 4, firmly set or embedded in a tapered rubber head 5. A hollow metal nipple 6 extends through the head 5 a short the head 5, is externally screw-threaded, and

is adapted to receive the threaded nut 8 which seats Hush against the back wall of the head 5 and is externally threaded to cooperate with the internal threads 9 on the tapered ring 10 to hold the same in position about the said head 5. External threads 11 are formed on the inner end of the ring member 10 and cooperate with the threads 2 at the forward end of the body 1 to hold the front assembly of the brush in operative position. A suitable wrapping or cover 30 will be provided for protecting the bristles of the brush so that the same will be sanitary. The cover 30 when in position also facilitates the insertion of the bristles through the ring member 10, when a new brush pad is being replaced for a worn one. The brush head as illustrated in Fig. 3 may be sold separately, so that when a brush head is worn out, a new one may readily be bought and substituted for the old.

My improved cream tube 12 is formed of a collapsible metal, such as tin foil, andl is provided with a tapered forward end 13 which is adapted to abut against the concave rear wall of thenut 8 and has an integrally formed forwardly extending discharge passage or neck 14 which is adapted to be inserted'in the nipple 6 and to htsnugly but to turn freely therein. The rear end of the tube l2 is of reduced diameter, being preferably tapered, as shown at l5, and is provided with the usual crimped transversely extending tab 16.

18 to cooperate with the internal threads 3 of the body 1 and is provided with a transverse kerf 19 in which the crimped tab 16 of the tube 12 is received. An end cap 20 is provided with a pair of parallel resilient guide bars 21 which are received within and frictionally engage the interior of the body 1 thereby yieldingly holding said cap in adjusted position. The bars 21 engage oppositely disposed notches 22 in the periphery of the follower or nut 17 in such a manner that said nut may be advanced or retracted when the body 1 and cap 20 are relatively turned.

lVith the parts assembled as above described, cream may be forced from the tube 10 through the stem 14 and nipple 6 into the bristles 4 adjacent the inner ends of the latter by turning the cap 20 and thereby advancing the follower 17 to collapse said tube. The collapsing action takes place longitudinally and progressively from the outer end. The reduced portion 15 of the tube permits this without suiiicient upsetting of the outer end of the tube to cause binding. Engagement of the tab 16 with the kerf 19 of the follower causes the tube to turn with the follower so that there is no torsional strain on the tube tendin to disrupt the same, the neck 14 of said tu e turning freely in the nipple 6 while extending far enough into the latter and engaging the same with sufficient snugness to insure the delivery of the cream without objectionable leakage.

From the foregoing description, it will be apparent thata new brush head may be sub-l stituted for a worn one and that a lfull tube of cream may be substituted lwhen a tube has been used. It will, therefore, be obvious that a shaving brush body will be good. for an indefinite period and needs only an occasional new tube of cream and a new brush head when the bristles wear out.

It will, of course, be understood that the particular construction and arrangement of parts above described and shown in the drawings has been chosen for illustrative purposes merely, and that the invention, as defined by the claims hereunto appended, may be otherwise embodied without departure from the spirit and scope thereof.

What I claim is:

1. In a shaving brush, a bristle head having bristles embedded therein and also having a tube fixedly embedded in said head and provided with discharge orifices into the bristles, a ring about said bristle head, and a nut threaded to said tube and to said ring for detachably connecting the head and ring together.

2. In a fountain shaving brush, a brush head and a `container body connnected together, an elongated tube extending entirely through said head and having a smooth cylindrical bore of uniform diameter throughout its length, and a cream tube mounted within said container body, and having an elongated exteriorly smooth cylindrical neck projecting freely through said tube and also extending entirely through said brush head.

3. In a. fountain shaving brush, a brush head anda container body, an elongated tube extending entirely through said head and having a smooth cylindrical bore of uniform diameter throughout its length, and a cream tube having an elongated exteriorly smooth cylindrical neck projecting freely through said tube substantially from one end to the other to permit relative rotation of the cream tube and container body.

4. In a fountain shaving brush, a container body having a brush head at one end, an elongated tube extending. entirely through said head and having a smooth cylindrical bore of uniform diameter throughout its length, a hollow ring enclosing said head, means connecting said tube and ring, and a cream tube having an elongated exteriorly smooth cylindrical neck fitting within said tube and projecting freely therethrough.

5*. In a fountain shaving brush, a hollow container body, a bristle-carrying body mounted at one end thereof, an elongated tube extending entirely through said bristle body and having a smooth cylindrical bore from one end to the other for receiving the elongated neck of a cream tube, a ring enclosing said bristle carrying body and detachably connected to said tube and container body.

6. In a fountain shaving brush, a hollow container body, a bristle-carrying body, an elongated tube extending entirely through said bristle carrying body, and having a smooth cylindrical bore from one end to the other for freely receiving the elongated neck of a cream tube, a ring enclosing said bristle carrying body, and connected to said container body, and a nut connecting said tube and ring.

7 In a shaving brush, a hollow container body, a bristle-carrying body mounted at one end thereof, an elongated tube extending entirely through said bristle carrying body, said tube having a cylindrical bore of uniform diameter throughout its length for receiving the elongated neck of a cream tube, a ring enclosing said body, and a member connecting the rear end of the tube with said ring.

8. In 'a'fountain shaving brush, a hollow container body having a collapsible cream tube mounted therein and -provided with an elongated cylindrical discharge neck, a. bristle-carrying body mounted at one end of said container body, an elongated tube extending entirely through said bristle carrying body, and having a cylindrical bore of uniform diameter throughout its length for freely receiving the elongated neck of said cream tube, a ring enclosing said bristley lcarrying body, and a threaded member detachably connecting the rear end of said elongated tube and said ring.
